Ds and his lumpy food problem

ds is 2. He likes his food pureed still into a pulp! He seems to manage lumps when eating apples, cheese and chocolate buttons though!

Anyway my hand blender has just broken. I have to options:

  1. bite the bullet and start giving him food in its correct 'unpulped' state! I must say I have been thinking about doing this for ages. Initally I thought that I didnt care if it was mashed finely as long as he ate it. Now it is getting a bit silly (especially at resturants where he will only eat nuggets)
  2. Buy another blender

what do you think?

My ds (3 years old) won't eat meat. as in chew on pork, chicken etc in a sauce so I have to blend the meat sauce for him but serve it with rice, pasta etc. Lazy boy can't be bothered to chew anything that takes a bit of effort!!!

woodpops - tell me about it. Even if there is the tiniest bit of chewing involved ds spits the food out!

I can never get him to eat a roast dinner and now dd is following the same route as her big brother.

I think your first response is right .. although maybe start with lumpier mashed food (hand masher) then gradually increase it .. put solid food alongside the mushy stuff on each plate and try to make the solid food more appealing

Its a habit and you need to break it (it takes up to 3 weeks to break a habit) because it isn't good for a 2 year old to be eating puree most of the time .. they are supposed to be chewing and eating properly

Thanks for the advice - I have decided to bite the bullet and go for it. Because my blender is broken it is good because I cant cave. Last night he had chicken on a stick (like a healthy Kebab) and he ate most of it.

I think that if he spits out the lumpy food - he will get hungry and then not care - so if I am firm he will eat it (fingers crossed!)
