When Can they eat ......

Bree, stilton, pate, unpasturised eggs, prawns, general shellfish, smoked salmon ?

I know they can't have it when they are babies but when can they have it.

Please note, i'm not planning on a hugely extravagant meal for my child but just in case he's dipping his fingers into our more interesting food, i need to know what to let go and what to say no to.

Sorry if already been discussed

Cheers,
Merry Christmas

it's supposed tobe after they are one but i'd say that if they are bigger then average then they are the equivalent of one. my dd will be one in jan so i reckon she's ok with most things by now. i think its to do with resistance so in the same way if you had a particularly small one year old you might want to wait a bit too.

no idea on ages - but just posted on another of your threads and am assuming your ds is pre-school age? In that case I would personally be happy with him having any of those things.

i'd say when they want to. thats rarely before one. and it depends. a slight taste is very different to guzzling down great quantities of pate.

I went to a weaning talk once and the woman said to have a picture in your mind of your child sitting in their high chair on their first birthday, tucking gleefully into a piece of birthday cake.

The image stuck in my mind and represents that by the time they are one (first birthday) they can feed themselves (to a point - chocolate everywhere), you can give them larger pieces of food and let them sort it out (no mushing) and they can eat anything (ie cake is not steamed butternut squash, but that's okay).

I know it doesn't work that way for every child, but as a quick way of remembering roughly when they could have what, I found it useful.

dd had seekh kebabs at a dinner party age 8.5 months.
she just refused to have the mush for more than about one week

My hv told my that after 6 months they can have everything apart from the things that you aren't supposed to eat whilst you are pregnant and when they are 1 they can have anything so long as it doesn't choke them.
