Some sort of cake at the bottom - slices of madeira are nice, or amaretti biscuits, or ginger cake. Sponge fingers in a push

Soak the cake with booze of your choice

Add fruit, this may depend on your cake choice (I use rum and pineapple with the ginger cake for example)

Get a tub of ready made custard (the good stuff, cream anglaise) and mix with a tub of marscapone (sp?). Cover the fruit with this mixture.

Cover the whole lot with lightly whipped cream.

Shavings of chocolate over the top.

You can do a jelly layer between the fruit and custard, but I rarely bother (although I did a strawberry trifle with champagne jelly one, that was nice).

thanks, sounds lovely, just regular jelly poured over the fruit and left to chill?

He's having a larff! Of course I always have a spot of Bodega Tradición Palo Cortado sherry in the house.

Normal jelly works fine, or you can make your own with leaf gelatine, sugar and fruit juice - v easy.

Same as LL, I put framboise (raspberry liqueur) with choc cake, or this year my homemade sloe gin , grand marnier/triple sec with madeira cake, then nice custard then top with cream.
Sometimes I do jelly, depends on how pushed for time I am.

Yum-mee

PMSL @ 'whilst listening to the royle family christmas episode ' - brilliant!

mumbear · 20/12/2007 20:14

Can anyone work out how much that would all cost!!!! That said this is the sodding man who cooks a spag bol for 8 hours!

Digestive biscuits sandwiched with jam. drizzled with booze. Jelly to taste (probably matching the jam) leave to set.
2 tins of ambrosia, and topped with whipped cream laced with brandy.
Cost about £2.40 depending on booze type and quantity.

Madeira cake splashed with marasala wine or sherry
Fresh raspberries in raspberry jelly
Carton of fresh custard
Whipped cream
Those traditional little silver ball thingies

Couldnt be any easier - and so yummalicious
