If he thought it would improve the flavour, he would.

(Kathy... completely OT, but is the E your original name or a married name? I am now vaguely wondering if we were actually in next-door rooms in the Beehive...)

thegrowlygus · 19/12/2007 20:54

Just looked. It is £115 per person for the taster menu. The accompanying wine ranges from 90 quid per person to 200+

Yikes.

TenLordsaLapin · 19/12/2007 20:55

I can't believe I didn't know this was on!

Kathyate6mincepies · 19/12/2007 20:58

(Lemonaid - original name.... I was in the Beehive.... you will have to give me some more clues!)

santaslittlepeatbogelf · 19/12/2007 21:01

Awwww, now he's made it snow! You see, really he's a frustrated theatrical designer.

Middle staircase? The level next to the bathrooms (can't remember room numbers, but going up the stairs to go in and then up a couple more stairs)? Matriculated 1990? I began with an E as well and was next to a classicist who seemed very nice but scarily intelligent... (I make no comment )

Kathyate6mincepies · 19/12/2007 22:19

I meant clues as to who you are I was a classicist.
Does your name begin with L?

Kathyate6mincepies · 19/12/2007 22:21

(always felt very thick, def not scarily intelligent, but that's just the St John's effect!)

moondog · 19/12/2007 22:23

I dunno..this food fetish stuff sits very uneasily with me...although I certainly wouldn't turn dow a trip to the Fat DFuck meself.

PortAndLemonaid · 19/12/2007 22:25

Yes (the L). And I was a lawyer, although I think I've mentioned that before.

I knew you were a classicist and there at the same time as me. And called Kathy but apparently not six inches high at the time (I surmise a tragic boil-wash accident in the intervening years).

Bah. You classicists were all scarily intelligent, so far as the rest of us were concerned...

Kathyate6mincepies · 19/12/2007 22:25

Why Moondog?
Is it because it is so extravagant and politically/morally that feels wrong?

Kathyate6mincepies · 19/12/2007 22:30

I know who you are

You and your friends all seemed a lot nicer and more normal than mine and also equally intelligent, just less keen to show everyone else how clever you were. Classicists do like to seem clever - it's why they do classics. We used to call our teddy bears after different schools of literary theory - FFS!

PortAndLemonaid · 19/12/2007 22:33

My friend Louise called her pot plants (plant that grew in a pot, just for clarification) after various Law Lords. But then she got a first...

SpottyHamster · 19/12/2007 22:34

Missed it- is it true he ate a filled bauble?

moondog · 19/12/2007 22:34

I think so Kathy.
Not sure though. Stil lexploring my isshooos, althouh heaven knows, am more than happy to pay loads for good food and booze.

Kathyate6mincepies · 19/12/2007 22:42

ROFL @ the pot plants! Why does that not surprise me?

Moondog - I think for me, what makes it ok is that there is a lot of genuine skill and craft that goes into producing these expensive ingredients and making the food. I am a lot more comfortable with that than with people paying £10000s for things basically because they are fashionable. If we are an affluent society, spending money creating wonderful food seems like a relatively benign and innocent way to spend it.

NappiesGaloriouslyFestive · 19/12/2007 22:51

absolutely. better than a fucking handbag.

moondog · 20/12/2007 08:27

Ah yes,you are right.
I like that proviso.
