Xmas eve outdoor meal ideas

Had planned to go in to town for Xmas afternoon tea on Xmas eve but with the dreaded c word and an elderly relative with us , might be better to avoid.
So was thinking might be fun to have late afternoon sort of outside bbq
We have an outdoor kitchen with pizza oven and plancha grill , good for sausages etc
Could do mulled wine or mulled cider in slow cooker, we have a plug outside
Looking for something bit more exciting than hot dogs but lacking inspiration really
Will do pavlova and a dark chocolate orange tart for pudding
There will obviously be cheese involved somewhere
Any inspiration welcome Smile

I would do some sort of warming stew/ curry for that type of get together

I'd do several varieties of really special sausages, with nice buns and sauces, fried onions and maybe some homemade wedges, slaw, salads, grilled sweetcorn or veggie kebabs to go with it. And a big box of blankets!

I live down under so we cook Xmas dinner on the BBQ every year Grin

Things we've done before that have gone down well:

  • scallops wrapped in bacon on a skewer, or marinated halloumi skewers for those who don't eat shellfish
  • butterfly chicken on the bbq (not sure what kind of bbq you have - we have one of those Weber ones with a lid, roast chicken comes out crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside!). Turkey comes out the same but takes a lot longer to cook.

Beef stew of some kind? I find stew very comforting and suitable in the cold. Irish stew, beef bourguignon or similar. (We're vegan but just use vegan alternatives to beef.) But personally I'd stay inside at this time of year!

Ham hocks with sweet potatoes and grilled cabbage.

How about festive panini’s?
Could make up in advance and it’s easy to cook a load in the oven, just arrange on baking trays and then lay another baking tray on top, weighted with baking beans (or any other weight).
I’m thinking Brie, bacon and cranberry (or without the bacon for veggies). Beef with Stilton and caramelised onion chutney.
Cheddar with pigs in blankets.

Would be a bit different, filling, easy to prep in advance and serve and easy to eat standing up without cutlery.

@LalalalalalaLand123 you are just a wimp , no bad weather just wrong clothes and all that ..😜

Pannini cooked in oven is a top tip, never thought to do that
