Airfryer

For reasons known only to MIL she has sent her us an airfryer. Are they any good? Any tried and tested recipes? Dreading taking it out of the box and finding somewhere to keep it.

It's the most useful kitchen invention ever. We've had one for years.
We use to heat up anything frozen from the freezer, make home made chips, roast veggies, heat up stale bread, croissants, pies, sausage rolls, dim sum, roast nuts etc. Essentially like a mini oven.

I don’t “cook” in mine just heat things up. So frozen bread part bake rolls in they go for 8min no need heat up oven 15min first. Have a take away needs reheating few minutes job done. Frozen food roast potatoes chips fish fingers all done in 15m. Great for quick lunch

Couldn't live without mine

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 14/12/2021 12:13

They are amazing and save so much money on the elec, almost anything you would heat up the oven for you can do in the airfryer for a fraction of the cost. I use mine a lot for breakfast foods, like cooking bacon or has browns, also great for chips or anything you would bake or fry.

I love clear kitchen counter tops. I don’t even have a toaster. Absolutely make an exception for my airfryer though - it’s so much quicker. It about halves the cooking time of most food and it takes absolutely no time to great up either.
You shouldn’t be dreading unboxing it - you should be thanking your MIL!

I don't use mine as much as I should but made an amazing corned beef hash in it the other week. Also makes nice risotto!!

Georgyporky · 14/12/2021 13:28

What a lovely MIL !
There should be an instruction book with some recipes to get you started.
I've got the Phillips, & there's a lot of recipes both on their website & the app. I use it as a mini oven. I've also got the extension shelf which doubles the cooking area.

To her credit she even sent a cookbook with it. It’s just that we don’t fry much and if we do it tends to be items with a wet batter so fail to see how that would work unless I am wrong. It sounds as if we’ve been given a mini oven??

I make the most amazing roast potatoes in mine.

DropYourSword · 14/12/2021 21:33

Yes. The name is maybe putting you off - it’s definitely a speedy mini oven.

Equalizer · 14/12/2021 21:54

We have an air fryer but it pushes stuff around so mostly use it for fat potato chips, sausages and other some veggies.

Sunsetsupernova · 14/12/2021 21:57

I’m hoping to get one for Christmas. I love doing chicken katsu curry but hate the amount of oil the chicken needs so I’m hoping the air fryer will make it much easier

GreenAndSpringy · 15/12/2021 20:02

Roasted pineapple slices (they caramelise and are AMAZING), baba ghanoush, crispy polenta chips, and you can make a fantastic Yorkshire pudding with any oil you want, don’t need nearly as much oil as with a regular oven and doesn’t need to be lard to get a gorgeous crusty rise.
I find sweet potato fries (freshly cut with just a light brush of oil) take even less time and effort than those made with potatoes. Slices of pumpkin (not too thick and they’ll cook in under ten minutes) are particularly good this way.
I make packed lunches for the family every morning. An AirFryer and a rice cooker makes this simple and straightforward.
And if you do get chips from a takeaway, you can re”fry” them for 5 minutes which will get rid of lots of oil as well as achieving optimum temperature and crispness

Ok tried out on things i’d like to bake but can’t be asked to switch the oven on for and I am impressed!

I love mine. It gets trailed to the front of the worktop at least twice a week. It cooks a whole chicken in less than a hour and it is so soft, yet beautifully browned.

I also make chips (ordinary and sweet potato) and wedges and occasionally chuck chicken nuggets or fish fingers in to save switching the oven on.
