Turkey and....

DH is insisting we have a second meat with our turkey. That's was his parents always do and apparently that's what they'll expect when they come to us. But I am doing a turkey gravy? I don't get how a joint of beef or lamb will go with the meal. Is it normal to do more than one meat?

I usually do gammon and turkey. The turkey gravy goes well with gammon although I agree with you that it wouldn't go with beef or lamb.

Do a ham...yes lots of people seem to do this

toastofthetown · 11/12/2021 16:13

If your DH is insisting then surely he can source and cook the alternative meat. Having two isn’t unusual, but certainly not necessary.

SillyBlueHat · 11/12/2021 16:15

Apparently gammon is just weird. That was my first suggestion. Might just do it anyway

We always do turkey and gammon.

Largely because I think like to make a turkey, gammon, mushroom and leek pie with all the leftovers.

God I love CHristmas food

Cold cuts of meat

Georgyporky · 14/12/2021 13:31

I'd tell DH to cook the whole meal himself if he wants 2 meats !
I don't consider it normal at all - unless you are catering for a huge crowd.

'Pigs in Blankets' is another meat.

SillyBlueHat · 15/12/2021 22:04

There are only 4 adults and 2 small kids so I don't see the point in cooking several mains.
He is definitely not cooking the dinner. He can do Xmas Eve and NYE but not Xmas dinner.. we'd only get pigs in blankets.
