It's the only veggie option on the menu where I'm going tonight and I just can't imagine it and I think I want to ask my friend to change restaurant but I'm wondering if anyone is going to tell me it's lovely Grin

I've never seen one but I'd buy a box from a supermarket, it sounds quite nice to me, however I'm an omnivore if that makes a difference, but really like veggie burgers made from veg I don't eat fake meat as obviously I eat meat!

It could be amazing or it could be shit but what might put me off would be that there’s only one option and that it’s a burger.

That‘s likely to mean it’s been bought in frozen and could be tasteless. DD is in the same position as you - friend chose a restaurant with a “felafel burger” as the only vegetarian option (and it’s actually vegan - another pet hate of mine!). Thankfully she had enough time to suggest another restaurant which is nicer as well as having more options.

I’ve spent 40 years sucking this sort of thing up - having things taken off the plate to make it “vegetarian”, only being able to order side dishes in a curry house, splitting a bill where others had steak and I had food that probably cost pennies.

You have to decide whether it’s worth making a thing of it or just enjoying your friends’ company.

Top tip - put a Mars bar in your handbag. You may well need it Grin

It's quite a naice restaurant, all local ingredients and has a 5 rating on trip adviser, so the quality should be good! They do have one other vegan option of a mushroom bake but I'm not keen on mushrooms! I may give the burger a go, I don't go out to eat often at all so I'm scared of not enjoying it especially as it's an expensive restaurant Grin

I’ve had pumpkin burgers that are really nice and others that are awful. I know that’s not helpful at all. 🤣 Fingers crosses you get a good one.

Believe me - “naice” and expensive restaurants don’t always understand how to make vegetarian food taste good.

I went for a celebration meal at The Gherkin - private room with a small group of 12. I ordered in advance - “heritage beetroot risotto” - on the day they told me they had no beetroot so would another vegetable do? The other vegetable was three spears of out-of-season asparagus plus peas. And the celeriac velouté starter, which had Gorgonzola in which isn’t vegetarian was swapped for celeriac soup with no cheese at all. It tasted of nothing.
