So The Best Vegetarian Gravy in The World is...?

Would you believe it, I've never done gravy before! Only ever had it a couple of times when I had the school Christmas dinner, and once at a friend's house! Anyway, so I'm making a nut roast with root veggies at Christmas this year, and want a nice packet vegetarian gravy to go with it. What would you recommend? Also, any gravy-related tips and tricks I should know?

@AnneLovesGilbert I was just about to go shopping for the ingredients, but I can't see quantities for the them!! How do I know how much of everything to use?

Sorry, didn't refresh!

@AnneLovesGilbert I've just made your nut roast - fingers crossed it goes down well.

Thank you!

I've just made the nut roast, it's in the oven now, I thought I would cook it today, just incase of a disaster, and reheat tomorrow for Christmas lunch, I have a standby just in case.

Pickles89 · 24/12/2021 23:35

@lindyloo57 What nuts did you use? I bought peanuts and walnuts and cashews as that's what the recipe suggests but I'm regretting the peanuts now. I think chestnuts would have been more appropriate! @AnneLovesGilbert What sort do you use?

@Pickles89 I just brought a mixed bag of nuts from Holland and barret, it turned out great.

The nut roast turned out beautifully - thank you so much for the recommendation. Gorgeous and got the thumbs up from all the meat-eaters too.

@AnneLovesGilbert Me again!! So you said for the gravy to let it simmer 'as long as you can' - roughly how long is that?

Glad the recipe worked for people.

Sorry missed question about nuts before, this year I used a bag of mixed with extra pecans and cashews.

Gravy, @Pickles89 I had it simmering about half an hour yesterday when I made a batch to take somewhere, but less will be fine. It continues to thicken up for a while.
