Was all set to make sushi (amongst other things) for our Christmas drinks party on Friday, only to discover that the local sainsbo has stopped stocking the rice and seaweed.

Need some light (ie, not pastry), not too expensive, not to hard ideas for canapes please.

TIA

water crackers spread with pesto or olive tapanade with a grating of parmesan on top. Yum.

sashimi? (i.e. sushi without the rice and seaweed)

or crisps are good.

Spread thin crustless bread with soft cheese, then put ham ontop, roll the bread out like a sausage, and cut across, to make pinwheels.

Top mini blinis with smoked salmon and creme fraiche, with a sprig of dill on top

Mini Bruschettas with tapenade or pesto on top

Mini toad in the holes, made in fairy cake tins

Mini bruschetta always go down well. slice a baguette into thin slices (one will easily give you 20), brush with olive oil and bake on a tray until they are lightly browned.
remove and rub each one with a cut piece of garlic.
Now you can put whatever topping you want on them. A slice of plum tomato, with a halved black olive, a slice of fresh mozzarella and a basil leaf works well.

Water biscuits with a little duck pate and a blob of cranberry sauce is good too.

Scrape new potatoes til clean, boil til cooked.
Use a melon baller or teaspoon to scoop out a hole then fill with whatever you fancy. (The original recipe I got this from had caviar but have done it with grated cheese and bacon and various other things. Some ideas here from the wise ones of MN

Celery cut prettily on the diagonal, stuffed with whatever takes your fancy - blue cheese stuffing, sour cream and chive

mini bagel halves with smoked mackeral or smoked salmon pate

mini cocktail sausages hot out of the oven, pile of cocktail sticks to one side, pot of spicy tomato relish to the other. Guaranteed DH pleaser especially if you buy decent chipolatas and make your own cocktail sausages

Do a few thin omelettes, roll them up like a swiss roll and cut into pieces secured with cocktail stick. Flavour basic omelette with chili and spices.

Buy the pilsbury doughboy ready to roll croissants. Cut each of the 8 ready cut croissant shapes into 3 smaller ones so you end up with 24 mini criossant shapes. Put a small slice of waferthin smoked ham and a small slice of cheese (I use gouda) on each croissant and then roll into shape. Follow instructions on the packet for cooking.

I can't remember where i got the recipe from but they're very tasty.
