i think your right. solids should be to complement milk till 1 not to substitue it.
I just wonder if i should cut short ds am nap to be the short one and the long one in the pm, but he always looks so peaceful that I leave him and then lunch is late!

Alibo: when i say 'cubes' I mean pureed stuff that I've frozen in ice cube trays. Tend to keep a stash of them so I've always got some food in hand.

As to the rice: it's dead easy. For every measure of rice put on two measures of boiling water (for example, half cup of rice pour over a whole cup of boiling water). Then steam for 15-20 minutes. The good thing is, you don't need tp drain the rice as the water is just the right amount for it all to be absorbed.

My Dd 7.5 months, so probably on softer stuff than yours.

thanks kif; how much rice and cubes of veg do you use for dd's tea? when its cooked do you just mash the rice. ds is objecting to lumpy food still, but will eat lumps of soft fruit and rice cakes.

I found rice was a good way to get them used to lumpier food - mix with veg puree or red lentils. This was one of the first non-pureed foods ds's had - prob around 7 months.

alibo · 18/11/2004 11:04

thanks elliot, did you make the rice quite sloppy, or just mash it?

neither, just cooked it as for us. Risotto rice is quite good too, although it is more lumpy, because you can add more liquid and cook it till it is really soft. But I'm possibly not the best person for advice on introducing lumpy food, as both my ds's have been fine with them -ds2 even better than ds1 as I think I was mroe relaxed about just getting on with it. Certainly if they can do finger food then they can physically cope with lumps, they just need to get used to it!
(ds2 tries to eat risotto as finger food now....actually he is quite adept at picking it up grain by grain!)

Hi alibo ...

My dd really varied at this age (ca 9 mths) - on a good day she would eat 4 big icecubes of food (defrosted, I might add ), but some days she would not be interested at all. In which case we would leave the main course and just give her the 3-4 tablespoons of plain natural yogurt which she loved for pudding. Oh and maybe a couple of segments of some fruit. We were incredibly lucky as her eating never seemed to have any impact on her sleep. I was still breastfeeding, so no idea what she was getting, but I had the impression that it wasn't more than 4-5 oz in the evening feed. She always fed for 20-30 minutes until she was dropping off to sleep.

Her milk feeds were bf morning and eve, and 4-5oz EBM at nursery mid morning and afternoon.

Her meals were brekky at about 8-9am, lunch at 12, supper at 5.30.

Sorry not to be more help.

hi pidge, can you recall what sort of thing she would eat for lunch and tea on a good day?
