love these use to get them everyday from flavours cafe
I’m getting a sandwich toaster to make them for Christmas but am I been thick in asking so you put the mushrooms in the bread with the cheese raw or cook them first ? 🤓
would like a quick toastie having a baby rather than cook the mushrooms first lol
Thanks

You'll definitely have to cook the mushrooms first won't you? They let out a lot of liquid when cooked and that'd ruin your bread if you tried to do it at the same time.

I agree, you would have to cook them otherwise your panini would be very soggy! I prefer mushrooms fried, but my mum used to microwave them for a couple of minutes to go in bacon butties, which could be a quick easy way of cooking them and getting rid of the water.

You could use mushroom antipasto instead of fresh. Most supermarkets do jars now.

Just cook up about 3 days worth of mushrooms at a time and pop them in the fridge. Remember to season well.

GoofyIsACow · 05/12/2021 20:12

I put them in raw and they’ve always been fine, i bloody love a cheese and mushroom toastie!

Ozanj · 05/12/2021 20:14

What keeps a panini crisp is lots of fat on the bread. That’s why mushrooms tend to be added between two cheese layers rather than on top. A lot of places like Starbucks use either dried / rehydrated mushrooms as they sweat less

Raw mushrooms cook really nicely in a cheese toastie - no need to cook them first 😋

Slice the mushrooms very thinly and use in your sandwich without cooking.

furbabymama87 · 08/12/2021 15:04

You could use tinned ones.

trickytrudy · 10/12/2021 22:16

Made this three times since you posted. I think I'm obsessed.

Shazzz1xx · 10/12/2021 22:33

No , ust do it in a frying pan and then toast with a very heavy casserole pot balancing on top!
