Has anybody tried those Sainsburys frozen canape things that are 3 for £5?

are they any good? I can't be bothered to cook anything more challenging than pasta, let alone make 200 little nibbly things for a party

Are they like little spring rolls and samosa type things?

FrannyandZooey · 17/12/2007 15:51

Hello Mega, I am fine, what about you? I was thinking about you the other day (not in a scary way)

yes they have got samosas, pizzas, mini camembert etc etc etc

also mini pavlovas and ice cream cones or something

they look bloody nice but of course may taste cheap and nasty

I had the samosas/bhajis which were nice although not spicy enough for me. The frozen baby chocolate eclairs were vile though.

oregonianabroad · 17/12/2007 15:52

I need to know this as well -- 25 adults coming round next sat expecting decent nosh.

FrannyandZooey · 17/12/2007 15:53

oh dear what was wrong with the eclairs?

From experience I would say they are pretty good, as long as you cook them long enough - had an unfortunate incident at one do where th canapes were a bit soggy. Camembert ones are v.tasty with cranberry sauce to dip (are you allowed it though? )

Are you down this way over Christmas?

FrannyandZooey · 17/12/2007 15:59

So which ones have you tried MegaLegs?

I am down your way for about 24 hours (trying to avoid too much family crap!)

I don't know about camembert and I am certainly intending to eat some

surely if cooked till piping hot is ok?

Haven't tried the Sainsbury's one but the M&S are good (but more expensive obviously).

M&S food has a pretty basic list of ingredients whereas Sainsbury's ready-made stuff contains some odd sounding things.

I have the vegetarian spring rolls from their 3 for £5 range and i must say they taste even better than ones from an actual chinese.

they are yum!!

ChopsterRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 17/12/2007 16:29

the jalepenos are very nice, agree with megalegs tho, you do have to make sure to cook them for long enough. We buy them in bulk to have with pizzas. The mini duck spring rolls aren't bad neither.
I don't think I've had anything else that was particulary tasty. They are normally really cheap after xmas and we bought loads last year!

ChopsterRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 17/12/2007 16:30

none of the indian are good imo. Waitrose is a lot more authentic tasting. Or some tescos do proper indian brands around here, you can get big party bags of frozen samosas, etc.

Myrrhcy · 17/12/2007 16:31

M&S have a good vegetarian range.

FrannyandZooey · 17/12/2007 17:39

M+S slightly over budget

has anyone tried the mini pizzas or the quiches or vol au vents?

OP posts:
ChopsterRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 17/12/2007 17:54

oh the vol au vents were bland, not all that. the pizzas were ok, and the quiches quite nice.

I'm rather fussy with food too, so you might find it all fine.

FrannyandZooey · 17/12/2007 18:36

LOL I know you didn't intend this but I read your last sentence along the lines of

"I'm rather fussy with food too, so you might find it all fine" YOU RUDDY PEASANTS

I knew that was gonna happen!

I didn't mean it...honest!
