Does camembert taste like it smells when baked?

Bought some camembert in this weeks food shop. Had it delivered last night from asda. Long story short, I had to throw away the cardboard it came in so now it is just left in the plastic wrap in the fridge.

EVery time I open the fridge door, the smell hits me. I have never had it before and assumed it would be mild like brie but it feckin honks. Like gone off veg or something.

Is it supposed to smell like this or am I storing it wrong? I was planning on baking it but I'm worried it will taste like baked farts and now I regret buying it yet I don't want to waste it.

Can someone give some reassurance? And possibly a decent recipe for it?

Cheers all.

It is to be hoped not!

I didn't think Camembert honks.
Now Milleens !!!
That's another story. 😩

It definitely does. It doesn't expire til the end of Dec but I'm wondering if mine is already 'off'.

Caramebert really stinks Grin you need to keep it wrapped up as much as poss. I have it regularly and just suffer the smell as I love it so much ha!

Wrap in parchment/greaseproof paper and pop in a tupperware container. That should help!

No it's not off, it's just 'ripe' as they say, the smell is really strong isn't it!? Personally I don't find it is half as strong when baked.

Camembert*

No, it's not off. It does smell. Maybe put it in a Tupperware container or a plastic bag in the fridge.

No recipes in afraid. I don't like it baked, just as it is.

It tastes better than it smells, thankfully.
I think its milder when cooked. And if you bake it you can cut off the top of the rind after baking. I think the rind is the strongest and stinkyest part.

Forever referred to as 'that stinky french cheese' in allo allo style since we drove home from the south of France with some in the car!

Thank you, I'm.off to find a Tupperware tub. Bit neverous about eating it when the time comes.

@Lottieskeeper I was planning on baking it in bread if that makes sense. Do i need to cut the rind off first?

I cook it in the oven for about 15-20 mins then I take it out and do a criss cross across the top peel the quarters back put a dollop of onion chutney in it, close the quarters and bake for another 10 mins. Delicious!
Alternative stud it with garlic slices and rosemary
