Friends coming over next week for final of Strictly Come Dancing DS goes to bed around 8.15 and then we can eat, but has to be over by 9.25 so we can watch the results.

Want to cook something good but ideally to be prepared in advance so I don't have to faff.

One friend doesn't like spicy food. That's the only restriction. I'm not an imcompetent cook but absolutely HATE doing it every day, so am all out of inspiration.

Anyone?

We have a similar evening with friends tonight and the X-Factor final.

I made a really nice fish pie this afternoon with cod, smoked haddock, prawns, hardboiled eggs and some salmon in a white sauce made from the milk I simmered the fish in. A handful of capers and a handful of fresh parsley made it extra lush. I just took it out of the fridge and popped it in the oven whilst the veg was steaming.

We then scoffed sticky-toffee pudding whilst watching the results. Very pleasant evening.

What about something simple in a big pot with chunks of nice bread so you can help yourselves and not too much faffing,

what about something like beef bourginon - not spicy and can be prepared in advance. Absoloutely gorgeous! or lasagne?

Have fun - I cant wait to see who wins!

Krimble · 16/12/2007 21:30

Casserole of some kind sausage even, curry, chilli or even faitas.

Something simple so you only have to wory about getting the rice/ potatoes or whatever other accompniments right as pot of stuff can be simmering gently.

Krimble · 16/12/2007 21:31

Lasagne is also a good one as it will keep warm while you sort out garlic bread or whatever.

sorry, try this, this should be better

TheQueenSPeach · 16/12/2007 22:57

Thanks all, you've got me thinking. I've opted for wild boar sausages in red wine with haricot beans, roasties, braised cabbage and sprouts with chestnuts.

Kassiss, your casserole sounds delicious though. If you fancy posting the recipe that would be fab!

Vio do you do takeaways, in fact do you deliver. Why do you have pics of your food? .

vio · 17/12/2007 11:07

Kimble, nowadays loads food lovers do this. i am tempted to create my own website so i can share my very own recipes to others, thats why .

Krimble · 17/12/2007 22:18

I love food too and enjoy cooking, but once a dish is made I tend to just eat the bloddy thing not photograph it , each to their own and all that.
