We do have a few but I'd like to get her one aimed at novice cooks, nothing too time consuming. She's perfectly competent with the basics in the kitchen but hasn't really followed recipes as she would eat nothing but super noodles if allowed.

Any suggestions? I was wondering about Anna Jones or Rose Elliott but have no idea how complicated they are.

I learned to cook using Sam Stern's eat vegetarian. He was a teenager when he wrote it and it's aimed at teens. I still use his spinach and ricotta recipe.

Thanks, Mildura. I've never heard of it but sounds interesting.

The green roasting tin by rukmini iyer has v simple vegetarian recipes, you just bung everything in a baking tray or tin!

So minimal washing up too!

KittenKong · 23/11/2021 18:39

What does she like? Italian? Indian? Would she like to learn basics/classics?

Yes I was going to suggest this one too! It's super easy and hassle-free.

Take a look at Mark Bitmann's How to Eat Everything Vegetarian. Very systematic from the basics on up - not just single recipes but discussing food groups, variations on recipes. I find it a great resource and I'm not even veggie.

@CasparsWineBar, minimal washing up sounds perfect!

@KittenKong I was wondering that question myself as I wrote the OP. Her deep love is all the carbs rather than a specific cuisine. If I was forced to choose I would say Asian-style cooking (Japanese noodle type stuff).

@GrumpyPanda I use the original Bittman all the time, hadn't thought of the vegetarian one.

Thanks for all the ideas!

Another vote for this book. It was down to £7.50 at Amazon over the weekend so worth checking if it gets reduced again soon

I'm on the app so not sure my message above shows the posts I'm quoting. The book I'd recommend is the green roasting tin
