it thickens it up and makes it more filling, right?

question is, do i need to add it a certain time before the end ofcooking? like 30 mins before ready to serve? or can i just chuck it in and let the lot sit and simmer as long as i like?

so far have chicken, onion, garlic, mushrooms, celeriac, carrot in there with olive and sesame seed oils... am planning to add courgette and sliced runner beans but not yet as theyll get too mushy, right?

am
making it up as i go along (clearly)
and not hoooogely experienced at cooking (also obviously)

TIA

I've never heard of grating a potato to thicken a stew. I think if you put potatoes in to cook it'll thicken a wee bit. Put them in whole, I mean.

If you've cornflour to hand, you could mix some of that with water or milk and add it slowly, stirring well, till it thickens. You'd want to do it a bit before the end of cooking time - about 15 mins? Don't go overboard with the cornflour or you'll end up with gloop.

Or you could boil and mash a bit of spud and add that? Or tomato puree?

Sounds delish, btw.

Sorry, not much help!

Have never heard of doing it, but I bet it would be great. I'd probably add earlier, rather than later so they disintegrate and thicken.

Grated potato is an option. I use it sometimes and leave it to simmer for 10 or 20 mins. Because it is grated ot hardly takes any time to cook.

It's the starch in the potato that thickens it up btw.

Your soup sounds great, making me feel hungry all of a sudden!

yes heard of that ,floyd suggests using the powder version to do it also !!! He says its nicer than flour or cornflour.

GREAT Name btw !!!
