We have 6 adults (inc 2 veggies) 7 children. nothing firm yet but am thinking of

venison for the 4 meat eaters
a turkey crown for the kids
some nice sounding red-wine and chestnut loaf (recipe on here) for the veggies/as stand alone stuffing for everyone

with

celeriac and potato mash
stir fired brussel sprouts with bacon

and ? at this point runing out of ideas. inspire me.

Sounds very nice.

There were some very nice Jamie Oliver recipes in Telegraph today so I think I might just follow those.Nothing too radicaL THOUGH-GOOD TURKEY, STUFFING AND ROAST VEG. FOLLOWED BY cRISTMAS PUDDING.

i HAVE ORDERED A RIB OF BEEF ON THE BONE TO HAVE cold on Boxing Day and will unleash myself in the wineshop on Tuesday.

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 15/12/2007 17:34

I think I will use some of the Hugh FW recipes htat were in the Guardian a couple of weeks ago, he uses chicken instead of turkey.

moondog · 15/12/2007 17:35

And i will make a trifle for Boxing Day (althoguh it will never be as good as the utterly fantastic one my grandmother made.)

God, I'm pretty boring eh?
I don't believe in messing with tradition.

We do have lots of caviar in as dh working in former USSR though.

Blu · 15/12/2007 17:36

We always have exactly the same things!
Christmas eve: big rib of beef with all trimmings, Trifle in my late grandmother's heirloom trifle bowl.
Christmas day lunch: locally smoked salmon, pork pie, pickles etc.
Christmas Dinner: the full works - free range lesser spotted something rare local turkey, home made christmas pudding, etc
Boxing day: Fried-up leftovers.

hatwoman · 15/12/2007 18:09

slight flaw with the stir fried sprouts with bacon - seems a bit rude for the veggies!

we have christmas dinner on christmas eve. christmas day will be cold meat, nice cheese, soup etc. venison's ordered. thanks to Hugh f-w I sounded like a right old expert. "can I have it tunnel boned please and barded with caul fat. (and don;t ask difficult questions becase two minutes ago I didn't have clue what that meant) and can I have the bones please..."

Ooh very French Hat,to have yer big dinner on Christmas Eve. I've been there several times over Christmas (my sister married to a guy from Nice) and i can't be doing with it.
Huge blow out at midnight then spend Christmas Day hungover?

No thanks.

hatwoman · 15/12/2007 18:55

rather spend it hungover than cooking.

my sis is doing the honours for 14 of us!!

I believe we are having sheps pie on xmas eve...

I am doing a full english for 14 on xmas day mort of morning. I get this honour as everyone knows I will be up at sparrowfart with the children...[gah!!]

My sis is doing turkey, beef and pork for the Big Event. With everything. Everything!! (loosens belt in readiness)

Pavlovas for dessert as no-one likes xmas pud. We are all bringing different cheeses which we will then spend the evening eating washed down with much port!

Tradition in our family is to have mounds of mash potato with cold cuts and leftover chipolatas and pickles on boxing day

we're a reet classy bunch, us!

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 15/12/2007 19:22

What's your opinions on this - I'm having family over and I'm doing a selection for people to mix and match how they please, based on several family members requesting different things!!!!!

(Let's see if I can remember everything!)

Goose, a pork joint (and a steak and ale pie for bil who doesn't like real meat. )
potatoes roasted in goose fat
honey roast parsnips
mixed veg
brussels & chestnuts
sweet potato mash
yorkshire pudding
walnut stuffing
redcurrent sauce
bread sauce
apple sauce
Gravy - but I'm unsure what would 'go' wih goose.....
bacon & cheese boats (half baked potato, scooped out, mixed and put back in and shoved in oven to brown)

puddings
christmas cake (served with wensleydale & cranberry cheese)
chocolate pudding
lemon merangue
blueberry tarts
lemon curd tarts
ice cream
brandy baskets filled with blueberries and clotted cream
banana splits
fairy cakes (ffs!)

plus there'll be sausage rolls, 'pig in blanket' chocs, nuts, pickled onions, orange choc pancakes, cheese board, biscuits....

Nothing sophisticated in this house, as you can see... but NO. There'll be no 'mums go to Iceland' for me. Muggins here is MAKING IT FROM SCRATCH!!

I must be MAD

I love it really, you know!!

And I bet nobody is reading anyone else's answers, so....mumsnet is shite, mumsnetters are nutty, fruit shoots rule and I bet you all wear burburry and have breakfast at Greggs...
heeheehee

hatwoman · 15/12/2007 19:34

I read it. nine puddings? NINE puddings. you have totally lost the plot woman. though looking at them you're doing them all in advance? you are spending all december cooking. mad.

I know. But I want to please everyone and give them all their faves.

I'm a victim of my own delicious puds.

BBBee · 15/12/2007 19:48

nononononono#

i hope you want to do this - tell me you do or i will be compelled to save you.

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 15/12/2007 19:51

I do, I do.

I like the praise.

moondog · 15/12/2007 19:52

Fucking hell.
Sounds utterly fantastic.

I think the cheese bacon spud things might be a tad unnecesary thoguh.

holidaywonk · 15/12/2007 19:52

We decided today to have fillet steak sandwiches on ciabatta, with warm potato salad and roast veg, followed by something mascarpone-based. The kids will be full to the gills with rubbish, and I'm not that keen on roast dinners anyway. I hope to fit in some smoked salmon blinis and home-made brandy truffles at some point.

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 15/12/2007 19:53

They're all my neice says she'll like, Moondog!!

moondog · 15/12/2007 19:54

Yule, you mean you are putting together that fantastic list nad she has turned her nose up at everything??
She doesn't deserve an aunt like you.
Tell her I am coming in her place.

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 15/12/2007 19:59

She'll make up for it by eating her bodyweight in fairycakes!!!

And you could come as well - all 75000 mumsnetters could, looking in my freezer...... I think I might have got carried away.

BadKittenInAPearTree · 16/12/2007 15:19

Blimey YuleLove!!! Can we come and gate crash at your house please?

For Christmas breakfast am experimenting this year with those croissants you pop out of a tin and roll up and bake. I've had the idea to to line them with mincemeat before we roll them to make Christmas Croissants!

Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for lunch.

Then turkey, gravy, stuffing (paxo lol!), chipolatas, cranberry sauce and whatever veg riverford put in the box. Christmas pudding with brandy butter.
