Would you eat this cheese?

I have found a packet of cheese slices in the cupboard aka 'plastic burger cheese'.

I think it's been there about a fortnight since my DC helped put away a load of shopping and mistakenly put it in the cupboard rather than the fridge.

Would you eat it? I have a feeling that it's such an over-processed product (don't judge me) that it would out-survive all members of the family. Do you think the 'store in the refrigerator' instruction is to give the impression that it's a fresh product? Or am I going to end up with food poisoning?

I’d eat it without a second thought

What does the pack look like? If it is swollen or bloated in any way I'd throw it out. Any sign of mould, also throw it out.
Open and smell it, look for mould, if all OK try a little bit, then make a decision.

I might after testing it as above. I am not the right person to ask perhaps as I am currently eating cheese triangles which are 10 weeks out of date.

Update: packet in tact and not swollen. Smells of nothing. Nibbled it, also tastes of nothing.

I'll have a whole slice, see if there are any ill effects and then decide if I'll give it to the rest of the family next time we're having burgers.

It does make me wonder what the heck is in it. It reminds me of the McDonalds meal in a museum that never goes mouldy. Envy(not envy)

@RaininSummer I assume cheese triangles are also a food/plastic hybrid and can't ever rot

Plastic cheese will survive a nuclear war

DramaAlpaca · 21/11/2021 17:37

I don't think it's even classed as proper cheese. It won't do you any harm as long as the packet is sealed.

Animood · 21/11/2021 17:40

We could probs have a nuclear explosion and that "cheese" would survive.

I agree about wondering what the heck is in this stuff. I once ate chocolate philly a year out if date. It was unopened. Nothing wrong with it other than a frankenfood feeling so I never ever bought it again
