20mins per 450g

but will just check for you

iota · 13/11/2004 17:02

sd - 2.2 lb = 1 kg

SoupDragon · 13/11/2004 17:04

I need a bl00dy calculator for this!

velcrobott · 13/11/2004 17:04

how big is your chicken then ...

Lonelymum · 13/11/2004 17:04

45 minutes per kilo plus 20-30 minutes extra at 190 C (just checked on the cellophane wrapper of tomorrow's dinner - I take it you have a nice non supermarket wrapped chicken?)

iota · 13/11/2004 17:05

don't you have a calculator on the pc?

SoupDragon · 13/11/2004 17:06

No, Lonelymum, I have a chicken where I threw away the wrapping yesterday but then discovered the chicken had not defrosted so we're having it tonight!

If they can print the weight of a chicken on the label, whycan't they print the cooking time too??

Anyway, it's 1.5kg so I think that's about 1.5 hours. Which is what I guessed in the first place.

thanks

No it's more like close to 2 hours if you follow lonelymum's instructions....

codswallop · 13/11/2004 17:11

45 mins

codswallop · 13/11/2004 17:11

per kilo

codswallop · 13/11/2004 17:11

am a metric whizz

SoupDragon · 13/11/2004 17:12

It's a fan oven though - don't they cook quicker?

Obviously I cook it until it's done - the only reason I need to know how long is so I can put the veggies in 20 minutes before it's done. I'm sure my mother never had this problem. Mothers are so much better at this sort of thing. Oh, hang on... I am a mother. Bum.

I'd say about 95 minutes - 45 for the kilo, say 20 for the half kilo and an extra 30 minutes just to be sure.

Lonelymum · 13/11/2004 17:14

Love it SD!

SoupDragon · 13/11/2004 17:15

How about if I throw in the fact that it actually weighs 1.417 kg?

OP posts:
Lonelymum · 13/11/2004 17:15

Can't you not use the fan oven option? I know you want it done quickly, but it does bugger up the calculations.

Lonelymum · 13/11/2004 17:15

Well that makes all the difference.

SoupDragon · 13/11/2004 17:17

My mother never ever had to quiz the entire population of an internet site to find out how long to cook the roast. I don't think she ever referred to a cookbook either.

Is there something missing from the mothers of today?

OP posts:
Lonelymum · 13/11/2004 17:19

I bet she did use a cookery book. Know what you mean though. My mother seems to know how long to cook everything from roasts to puddings to cakes to anything else you can mention off by heart. Maybe it has something to do with having to do lots of mental arithmetic at school. Perhaps our kids will cope better than us as they do so much more mental maths these days.

SoupDragon · 13/11/2004 17:21

Well, if I'm not here tomorrow, you'll know I didn't cook it long enough

I always even it out by rounding up to the nearest 500g .. doing 20 mins per 500g plus 20 mins plus a bit .. it seems to work .. can't be fagged with calculators

codswallop · 13/11/2004 17:26

look in nigella she is all metric
