Hi all
Christmas is approaching us and I need your advice / opinions on the best cheeses out there

Cheeses I love are:
Very feety smelling (think like Camembert cheese, but stinkier)
Stilton and other blue cheese (although the danish blue in a supermarket is a bit sickly for me)
Sharp crumbly cheddars
Basically anything blue and or strong, or gooey and or strong

Cheeses that are okay (still like but can live without)
Goats cheese
Smoked cheese

Recently tried a Comte and a Black Bomber cheese thanks to recommendations on here - thanks mumsnet! Any other pong suggestions given the parameters above?

Thanks all
Cheese loving person

Epoisses, morbier, reblochon, point l’evec, taleggio, Cornish tickler, a good davidstow, Gruyère- all my favourites

PensionPuzzle · 10/11/2021 23:13

I really like Morbier, and anything from the Leicestershire Handmade Cheese Co but especially Battlefield Blue!

The Golden Cross goats cheese is a favourite too.

Vacherin is a summer cheese - so good in deserts and cakes though!

Luckingfovely · 10/11/2021 23:15

Vacherin Mont D'Or is my absolute favourite.

I highly recommend this company for trying new cheeses - I've never had anything from here that wasn't exquisite.

Well that was an expensive thread
Just had to order a bucket load of cheese for Xmas from courtyard dairy 🤣

My faves are Gorgonzola, Old Amsterdam, Lincolnshire Poacher, Perl Las and Perl Wen, Emmental and Hafod cheddar. Plus all the Snowdonia cheeses are lovely. If I had to choose one it would be the one with chilli I think. And the garlic one.

Thank you all
I've already tried a few of these - Epoisses is a top one, plus the lancashire ones and the cornish ones
Doing a list and making a massive order, got to pick very caerphilly... to not overspend xD

Definitely Epoisses for the taste and stink. I believe it's banned from being carried on public transport in France.
Wookey Hole vintage cheddar, and Cornish Yarg , the one wrapped in stinging nettles.

Poivre d'âne it's a pear shape covered with paprika and has tarragon in. From NE France, gets quite smelly.

languagelover96 · 14/12/2021 12:33

Visit a farm shop and see what they have.

I also love Cornish Cruncher-I like cheese with crystals. My husband loves a local cheddar-type; Sussex Charmer.

buckeejit · 14/12/2021 16:41

Courtyard dairy fan here too. The leeds blue is my favourite. Also supermarket goodies - ossau iraty & Sainsburys Cumbrian mature cheddar & extra special Stilton. If you have a Tesco check to see if they have any cave aged goats cheese, it's lush.
