Does anyone have a rice cooker they can recommend? I’ve been looking at Yum Asia and like the look of the Bamboo and Sakura models. The Zojirushi ones look amazing, but I don’t think I can justify the extra cost.

I have a Yum Asia rice cooker, the mini one (it's small enough to do just a single serving of rice if I want). Love it, it sits out on my countertop permanently. Small kitchen so any gadgets really have to earn their place... I eat a lot of rice, quinoa etc. It's so nice not to have to stand over it watching for the perfect moment to take it off the heat. It's been perfect every time.

Although I did try a recipe for risotto in it once, which I found online, and which I can't recommend. It came out more like sticky rice. Risotto definitely needs regular stirring.

I got one from Lakeland, don’t use it much but it’s great when we do.

I looooooooove the Joseph Joseph microwave one.

I have the asda one , very simple to use

Following, the Yum Asia one is quite expensive compared to Lakeland, can’t work out if it has extra bits

I use an Amazon 9 in one multi cooker with pressure cooker, brilliant for rice and cooks lots of other things too

Stokefolk · 03/11/2021 19:14

We have the Yum Asia Sakura and it is absolutely brilliant

I’d never go back to rice in a pan

toastofthetown · 04/11/2021 10:13

Thanks everyone, lots to look into!

@Stokefolk How did you decide between the Bamboo and the Sakura? I'm not convinced that I could tell the difference between them (especially given the baseline is my efforts with a pan), but I'm being swayed by words like 'induction heating' and 'Yumami'.

I think I went on price

We use ours for long grain rice, short grain rice and Thai sticky rice

I’ve never used it for risotto or anything else it does!

But it is absolutely invaluable for all rice! Keeps it warm for hours after cooking

I honestly would be lost without it!

I guess it depends what else you’re going to use it for?

Bought the yum asia panda rice cooker recently, absolutely fantastic. Have used 2 of it's many functions and am enjoying the timer function too (waking up to fresh food).

We have the Bamboo one. Specifically got it for the GABA rice setting which we use all the time for 'sprouted' brown rice. It is pricey though. All Yum Asia models are really good and as poster said previously, once you get used to switching on and forgetting about it you will never go back to pan again. They come with a really good recipe book showing you how to cook all rices/steam and even make cakes in it.

I have the Yum Asia Sakura and LOVE IT. I only use one setting so could have bought a cheapo one but I'm a sucker for nice kitchen gadgets. Grin

toastofthetown · 04/11/2021 22:11

@DDUW What didn't you like about it, what didn't work for you with it?
