What about wrapping them in aluminium paper and putting christmas stickers on them?

nailpolish · 12/12/2007 09:15

they are still hanging on the tree - until they all get eaten that is

I use the following and they last a good couple of weeks on the tree!

250g butter, 250g caster sugar
1 tbsp golden syrup
1 egg
1 tbsp ground ginger
1 tbsp ground cloves
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp bicarbonate soda
5oog plain flour

Basically mix it all together , refrigerate roll out, cut out and then bake at 190/gas 5 for 6 - 8 mins. leave for a min or two before removing from baking tray to a wire rack. (Make a hole using a skewer just as they come out of oven.) My kids love decorating these with tubes of writing icing. We do this every year and even my DS aged 11 loves it!

Good luck

Murphyslaw - are you sure its tablespoons of spices, not teaspoons? My biscuits don't use anywhere near that much, or is that what keeps them fresh IYSWIM?

nailpolish · 13/12/2007 10:44

yes i assumd it ws teaspoons too as i usually put 1-2 teaspoons in mine. i use mixed spice and sometimes cinnamon too

Yep Im sure - sorry taken so long to reply!

At the end of the day they smell great and they are not meant to be eaten? When I did mine on Monday I didnt have the right spices so just chucked ground ginger about 1 tsp and it was ok. Mine gobbled up the broken ones and the rest have made it to the tree!!!! Not sure about substituting the golden syrup for honey???

Try stained glass biscuits - they're so pretty!
