Recommended fridge temperature

I bought a new fridge recently and thought it didn't seem very cold, even at the max setting.

I bought a fridge thermometer and have found that it tends to be between 5 and 6.5 degrees celsius (depending on whereabouts in the fridge I put it).

At first I thought this was too warm as per the Food Standards Agency as per the following article:
www.food.gov.uk/business-guidance/chilling-food-correctly-in-your-business

But now I realise it is saying no more than 8 degrees is the legal requirement... whereas 5 degrees is more the 'best practice'.

Does this mean my fridge is fine? I wish they'd be more specific about it.

So long as it doesn't make me ill then that's all I'm bothered about.

I’d be interested to know this too. My fridge is less than a year old and I find that somethings end up frozen! I wondered if it was poor circulation due to it being too full so have been keeping an eye on it.

We have a Beko fridge/freezer that has a digital display on the outside of the door, and we run our fridge at 5 deg.C (although we have never checked it with a stand-alone, independent thermometer). Food stays very fresh in our fridge. It does have one of the blue lights inside the fridge which is supposed to help keep nasty bacteria at bay so, how much is due to temperature and how much to the blue light, I don't know.
