Nights are drawing in and it's certainly feeling like autumn here. I study ft and have 3 dc aged 9-15, all good eaters

With sports after schools starting again and my studying, time is short in the evenings. I'm finding that even though I'm doing a dinner, after Sports the dc want something more to eat. So I was thinking of starting suppers. Quick, easy bowls/plates that are filling, warm, and nutritious (Idm a little bit of junk)

So far I've got a very boring but easy list:
Chunky soups
Scrambled eggs
Sausage sandwiches (can cook sausages before hand)
Cheese and crackers (although not warm)
Cheese on toast
Beans on toast
Leftovers

Any ideas?

A bowl of porridge...quick, easy, warm and nutritious and you can add whatever you fancy to it.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 09/10/2021 20:41

Toasties
French bread pizza slices
Cheese and bean pitas
Crumpets
Bagel and cream cheese
Peanut butter and apple slices on toast

If you were happy with something sweet
Rice pudding
Banana custard

To be honest by the time you get to supper you will have probably already ticked fruit and veg boxes for the day and when coming in from a hard training session a few carbs isn’t too bad!

Are you saying you want to cook dinner and then supper? That sounds a bit bonkers, to me. Either have a snack and then have dinner a bit later, or have dinner and then have pudding/a quick snack a bit later.

Crumpets
Toasted tea cakes
Toasted fruit bread
Bananas and custard
Jelly with fruit in
An oatcake, cheese and a plum/pear
Bowl of cereal

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie yes, a quick supper after sports in the evening. I use the evenings to study as well as the days so with homework/reading/:sport some nights I'm pushed for time
They're very active/growing boys. Idm making a quick supper if they're telling me they're hungry.
Sports are at 6pm so a snack between 3-6 isn't enough to tide them over
Thanks for the suggestions ☺️

Haddock.

Bontanics · 09/10/2021 21:33

Suppers for me was always bread/toast based. Teacakes, crumpets, hot cross buns, eggs bread, peanut butter jam sandwich, honey on toast.

PurpleDaisies · 09/10/2021 21:41

I’m confused when they’re eating dinner. Are they eating after sports?

WhiteHorse92 · 09/10/2021 22:10

There's an orzo dish I do that's quick, easy and filling. I usually get sausages and take the meat out of the skin but diced Pancetta or Chorizo works well too, then fry with chopped onion and pepper, add a tin of chopped tomatoes, about 150g of Orzo and 200ml of stock, let it simmer for 10 minutes until Orzo is cooked. Serve with nice crusty bread. Pretty versatile as you can add whatever veggies you like such as mushroom, courgettes or runner beans if you want to change it up a bit or add herbs at the end. If you want it more like a soup you can just add lots more stock.

Cheese and potato cakes

FairyHuck · 09/10/2021 23:19

@PurpleDaisies they'll eat dinner around 4/430 ish. Do sports around 6. Get home at 7.30 hungry again
But because they do sports it's normally a light dinner/pudding

Toast / crumpets / cereal. I wouldn't be wheeling out actual cooked food again.

Can't they snack first and have dinner when they get in? Three nights a week we are home at 1530, out at 1630, they snack and dinner is ready (slow cooker) at 1930.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/10/2021 08:50

Definitely snack first and proper dinner later.
