Having 8 adults and 9 children over on Sunday for lunch.

Have menu pretty much sorted in my head and will prob do pasta with a bologaise sauce for the children.

Will feed the children first while the adults chat and have a drink or two. Need some ideas for some nice easy nibbles/canapes. Am not planning a starter.

Boiled new potatoes, with a scoop out of them (I use a melon baller) and hole filled with cheese and bacon.
I'll keep thinking...

Can't get new potatoes here atm I'm afraid!

Intriguing... what about small normal ones ?
Do you have any other restrictions on your shopping?

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 07/12/2007 10:11

I am in Budapest so things you would take for granted in UK are not necessarily available here!

Right - am planning:

Smoked salmon and cream cheese on little squares of rye bread
Baked Camembert to dip nice bread into
Hummus with things to dip into

Sounds OK doesn't it?

Am off to supermarket!

Bread sticks with srips of parma ham wrapped around them.

Hot almonds: melt some butter, then put in some chopped garlic, some cumin, some ground coriander, some worcester sauce (if you have any in Budapest!) and some tabasco sauce. Cook gently for c 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, Pour over the almonds and then cook in a warm oven for c. 20 minutes. SPrinkly over salt (preferabl;y sea salt) Serve warm or cold. Alternatively, just warm up the almonds with melted butter and garlic. Sophisticated and easey!

Thanks Scootergrrrl!

And thanks prettybird - those hot almonds sound divine!

1970s style devils on horseback - prunes, small bit of blue cheese stuck in middle, wrap in bacon, skewer with toothpick, bake 15 mins. made these recently for a laugh - never seen nibbles scoffed so quickly!

I'll get you the exact recipe for the "Killer Almods" if you like - i was doing that from memory at my desk.

That reminds me, I must go and buy a couple of kilos of almonds from one of the local Indian shops and make up my Christmas supplies. They are very more-ish!

dh (Chef in this house) says, blinis with guacamole and a sliced pickle walnut on top.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 08/12/2007 08:48

Blinis too tricky! Haven't got the time/energy/patience to make them. Don't have luxury of Waitrose here!
