Dd has decided to be vegetarian. I prefer looking through cookbooks to finding recipes online, so please share your best vegetarian cookbooks for families?

I have been vegetarian for nearly 40 years and have read many, many cookbooks.
At the moment I like this

BOSH

Meera Sodha is fantastic. I have all three of her books. The most recent two (Fresh India and East) are all vegetarian. As the title suggest, Fresh India focuses on Indian food and East has recipes from across Asia. All the recipes have worked really well for me.

I love Anna Jones- her new one pot one pan and modern way to eat are fantastic vegetarian books. The kind that you don't notice that it's vegetarian because the recipes are so good and not at all trying to substitute meat if that makes sense.

Ottolenghis plenty and flavour are also fabulous but as is his style, the ingredients lists are long and often difficult to source, and the washing up after is immense. Lovely lovey food though.

Great, thank you. I’ve seen some of Meera Sodha’s recipes in the newspaper before which look great. I haven’t heard of Anna Jones so will look her up. I do need vegetarian dishes where the meat-eaters won’t notice the difference!

Hairy Bikers I think I've made nearly everything in it. We had the roasted aubergine pasta last night

Whinginadeville · 28/09/2021 16:54

Mu dh is a meat eater I just add sausages, chops or a bacon wrapped chicken breast to the veggie meals

ConstantlyIrksome · 28/09/2021 17:31

Definitely River Cottage Veg - easy, quick and hearty meals that you don't really notice are meat free.

alpinia · 28/09/2021 17:50

The Green Roasting Tin...everything is yummy!

Mipe · 28/09/2021 19:59

My favourite is The Happy Pear: Recipes for Happiness. It has a good variety of quick & easy meals and new things to try, I regularly make my own vegan steaks now Smile

Isa Does It - its a vegan cookbook, but lots of nice food. It's American so you might have to Google a few things, like a swede is a rutabaga.

I use a lot of these. Bosh, hairy bikers, anything by Meera sodha, green roasting tin, ottolenghi …

I find him annoying but Jamie Oliver’s veg recipes are great. Lots online. Ching he huang’s new book is plant based. I’ve made lots. Vegan Richa is a blog but also has a physical book. I love her curries.

Another fan of Meera Sodha here, also Green Roasting tin. Nigel Slater's Greenfeast autumn/winter book also has some lovely recipes in it. Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall Veg Everyday is another good book

Seconding the Happy Pear books. They also have a YouTube channel with lots of videos of quick recipes. I particularly like their roasted vegetable pasta bake, and their chickpea curry.
