Complete newbie to the kitchen in need of some xmas biscuit recipies

HI

I'm rubbish in the kitchen and have some how ended up holding xmas day at my house this year. Hubbie is going to do all the cooking but i have agreed to do the baking so i'm looking for some recipies that are nice and simple to do. Looking for things like cookies, brownies fairey cakes (just things like that)

It depends on whether you want to actually bake them! If it were me I'd pop to Lidl as they have fab xmas cakes and biscuits, spiced ones, iced ones etc and very different to the usual you find in British supermarkets.

You could then always add some icing and silver balls if necessary.I know I haven't helped with recipes but you said you weren't great in the kitchen and this would save you time!

Fab for christmas are gingerbread biscuits (any old recipe, they are much the same and there is one in pretty much every recipe book). You can put holes in them to hang from the tree.

To make them fancy you can use a small cutter to cut a shape out of the middle, put a boiled sweet in the gap and then bake them. It gives you a gingerbread biscuit with a stained glass middle!

White Chocolate-Cherry Biscotti Sweethearts

Preheat oven at 160° C (325°F)
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20-25 minutes

Makes 26 biscottis
2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp. Magic Baking Powder
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 pkg. (6 sq. each) Baker's White
Chocolate, chopped and divided
1/2 cup sweetened dried cherries
1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Method

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Lightly grease and flour large baking sheet, Mix flour and baking powder in medium bowl; set aside.
  3. Beat butter and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well.
  4. Gradually add flour mixture, beating until well blended after each addition. Stir in 1 1/2 cups of the chopped chocolate, cherries and pecans.
  5. Roll dough to 1/4-in. thick on floured surface. Cut with 3-in. heart-shaped cookie cutter, re-rolling dough scraps as needed.
  6. Place hearts, 2 in. apart, on prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10-12 min, or until lightly browned.
  8. Turn hearts over on baking sheet. Bake an additional 10-12 min. or until slightly dry and golden brown. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.
  9. Melt remaining chopped chocolate (microwave or bain-marie). Drizzle over hearts. Let stand until chocolate is firm.

Sugar Cookies

2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp.baking powder
2/3 c. shortening
2/3 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
mix flour, salt and baking powder. Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs
one at a time and beat. Add dry ingrediennnts and vanilla. Chill. Roll and cut
with a cookie cutter, or form into small balls and press down with a lightly
floured fork or glass.
Bake on greased cookie sheet at 350 for 10 to 12 min.
