Where can I buy wheatgerm and bran

...on line (to eat with porridge) - most of what I see is in pellet form or is for feeding fish. My one and only independent local health food shop often has one or the other and I have had to return it sometimes because it smells like something just cleaned out from a rabbit hutch - plus the prices have gone up a lot in the last year - I want a reliable supplier.

Have you heard of Einkorn wheat berries?

H&B - I forgot about them - there is one in a town about 8 miles away but only go there about once a year.

The wheatgerm I used to get as a student in the 80's living in Golders Green/Hampstead was so much better than anything I've tasted since - it was far nuttier - I've not found anything as good since.

We have plenty of berries - grow our own blueberries - didn't have a very good year with any of my fruit (bar the strawberry patch) - no pears, greengages or blueberries - I think the frosts came at the wrong time even through I wrap my plants in gauze when frosts were around in early spring.

I make my own bread (breadmaker) and I've tried adding spelt grains but they are too hard in bread (I stick to a mix of sunflower and pumpkins seeds in my 50/50 brown wholemeal/white loaves) and if you soak them they go to mush - I might just try doing something with a bag of einkorn - I've not heard of that. I think wholefoods used to supply wheatgerm but not ATM.

Good old H& B eh. I also make seeded bread with sunflower and pumpkin, but also golden linseeds, and chia sometimes. The linseed gives a lovely nuttiness.

@ThatSunnyCorner noted! Thanks.

You never see wheatgerm anymore, it's true. My dad used to eat it every day with his muesli.

I have ground flaxseeds on my muesli these days instead, for the omega 3. Nice flavour, and high fibre.

FWIW The H&B wheatgerm tastes horrible to me - it has a chemical taste and the aroma of baby sick. I managed to find a health food shop that sells the "Tree of Life" brand £2.95 for a 500g bag - it's only a couple of years ago I used to pay £1.80 for this same product. I'd still like to find an on-line place where I can put in a regular order for larger bags - I once bought a 2-3kg bag from Amazon but it's not available through them any more.
