Baby's meal left out all day - chuck it or use it?

I'm being prolific today - 2 threads started in this section!

Anyway, I made a batch quantity of a chicken meal for my 6 month old last night. At 23.00 when I went to bed it was still too hot to puree and then freeze or even refridgerate ( too hot because I had only just finished cooking it). I left it on the hob to cool overnight intending to deal with it around 6.30 this morning before going to work. However, completely forgot and it is still on the hob (not refridgerated) and will remain so until I get home at 17.00.

Do I have to chuck it do you think? If I am honest, if it was a meal for dh and me then I would still eat it....but maybe I need to be more cautious for the baby? I think I know how you are going to reply, but its such a shame to throw out the fruits of my labours made late at night

I'd proabably chuck it .. or serve it up to DH for dinner

sorry

I'd taste it myself - and if seem ok then I'd use it - as long as your kitchen hasn't been too hot during the day.
Build up babes immune system if nothing else!

I'd chuck it too - not worth the risk despite all your efforts.

agy · 10/11/2004 12:44

I suppose if was a simmered 'stew' type of meal and the lid is still on it, it will be fairly sterile, won't it? But still - could you adapt it into a meal for yourselves and start again for the baby?

cockle · 10/11/2004 12:44

I'd chuck it or find another use for it

handlemecarefully · 10/11/2004 12:51

Ummm - it seems more 'chuck its' than 'keep its'. Yes maybe that's a good compromise, I could add a few interesting ingredients to jazz it up a little and then dh and I could eat it

if it were me, i would chuck it too....

zubb · 10/11/2004 13:02

if it had a lid on I'd use it, if not eat it yourself.

Northerner · 10/11/2004 13:24

I'd chuck it. Bacteria multiplys by the thousands at room tetmperature. You have to be especially careful with chicken.

AuntyQuated · 10/11/2004 13:25

bin it

KateandtheGirls · 10/11/2004 13:34

I'd chuck it and wouldn't let anyone eat it. I know it's a shame, but it's chicken and it's been sitting out for 18 hours. I know I wouldn't want to eat it...

WigWamBam · 10/11/2004 13:39

I'd chuck it, too. I wouldn't want to eat food that had been out of the fridge for 18 hours, let alone feed it to a 6 month old. Sorry, I know it's a waste but I really wouldn't risk it.

PicadillyCircus · 10/11/2004 13:42

I'd chuck it.

And feel annoyed, think about not chucking it.

And then I would chuck it.

Sorry

handlemecarefully · 11/11/2004 23:29

It got binned
