Really dumb question / frozen prawns

First time attempting a prawn curry, do I defrost the prawns before cooking them (they are uncooked frozen, grey looking). If I don't defrost them in advance, will it make the curry sauce more liquid and/or fishy ?

Yes, you need to defrost them and pat them dry.

I defrost them & dry with kitchen roll, then cook for about 3 minutes.
As you say, the sauce will be a lot runnier if you cook from frozen.

Thank you, glad I checked, I had been told to just chuck them in from frozen.

Defrost and dry. They take hardly any time to thaw. And hardly any time to cook. When they've gone from grey to pink they're done.

Just run them under a cold tap for a few minutes and they’ll defrost.

I run under tepid water for a bit and then chuck them in

I would say it doesn't really matter, but some now come in an ice casing so would water down the sauce. They will also cook quicker and be more juicy.

I add raw prawns frozen to the pot/pan, never bother defrosting first.

Actually, I think they did come in an ice casing, as they all had chunks of ice on each individual prawn.

I let them defrost in a dish and there was a huge amount of liquid once they were defrosted, was glad I hadn't put them straight into the sauce from frozen.

Thank you.
