Kids' snacks - healthy or health hazard?

Wondering how you feel about giving your kids snacks. Do they add towards a good diet in your house, or are they basically a bit of a nightmare (in terms of nutrition, appetite at meals, cost, food battles, or anything else really)?

Kids have small tummies and high activity levels and depending on the spacing of meals I don't think it's always reasonable to expect them to eat like adults and wait long periods to have a larger meal. Some will prefer and suit smaller and more frequent meals which isn't a problem as long as it's all nutritionally balanced.

Bags of biscuits and crisps before dinner isn't ideal, but mid morning and afternoon snacks of fruit, vegetables, complex carbs, proteins and fats can form a great part of a balanced diet.

DD is only a toddler but has an earlier lunch and later dinner so needs a mid afternoon snack to keep going. Normally something like oat crackers with peanut butter or cheese and some apple slices.

So it isn't the snacking that's the issue but what is being fed.

Odd question. Good snacks are good, bad snacks are bad. Obvs.
