Hi,

I'm not an experienced cake decorator but have been tasked with making a tardis cake. I'm wondering whether to buy a traybake and cut squares and put one on top of the other. Anyone think this would work or have any better ideas?

You could do layer with buttercream or ganache. Bought Tray bake can be a bit dry though so I d make it myself. Ready to roll icing in tardis blue and you can get edible icing stickers from eBay for the detail.

@Woeismethischristmas thank you! So what size rectangular cake would you make egg wise? This would only be a smallish party for say 10 people at most, more a centrepiece really.

I’m more of an eye baker. If you have a decent sized rectangular cake tin . I’d just divide into 6 or 8 minus curved corners trim the top off with a bread knife so it’s flat.

Would you use modelling chocolate or fondant? And would I still use buttercream to stick it on?

I made the one below some years ago for my son. It was made from Madeira cake, cut and layered. I covered in buttercream and then Fondant icing. The labels were just printed and stuck on with egg white and them removed before eating!

@JuniperBerry1 this looks great! I'm wondering about the signs as can buy on ebay but I'm unsure of the sizing yet so not sure whether to do a dummy run
