well, how about toad in the hole, or chicken and roasties for a start? you can't beat those.

plus...

fishcakes (make them with mash and smoked haddock. you obviously make a lot of mash anyway!)
spaghetti carbonara/putanesca (onions/garlic/oil,capers, olives,anchovies,toms. dead easy)
garlic chicken
pizza!
stew
liver & bacon.

need any more?

I tend to do chicken breasts or pork chops roasted in a big tray with veggies and potatoes chopped into smallish chunks - a nice easy meal as veggies can be prepared in advance and put in some oil in a bag in the fridge until needed.

Spinach lasagne is another of our usual meals

When I get really desperate I make risotto - you can make a risotto with almost anything (as long as you have the rice obv). I like celery or parsnip or summer vegetables.

Loads of different recipes on BBC site Delia even does an ovenbaked one so no standing around stirring.

I forgot to add the frozen pea risotto - an excellent emergency meal

risotto:
sautee onion and any other vegetable you like (pumpkin, butternut squash, carrot, peas, courgettes) in olive oil and knob of butter. when onion is translucent add the rice. saute for another 5 mins. add chicken stock or vegetable stock. keep stirring. add stock when needed. finish it off with grated cheese (parmesan or whatever takes your fancy) and herbs (mint with pumpkin risotto)

I usually use the recipe from Nigel Slater's Real Fast Food book, but I can't tell you what that is because Nige has been AWOL for weeks now and I can't find him anywhere
