Packed Tea Ideas

Thinking ahead for Sept.

Dd (14) will have a full on schedule from September due to sporting commitments. She will have to go straight from school to sport and we won't get home until 9ish 2-3 days a week.

So, it will mean a packed tea in the car. Left to her own devices she would shovel junk food in, so I'm looking for healthy options. She's pescatarian too, just to complicate things further,

Wide necked thermos…..soups, casseroles, stews etc.
Bento box….rice & toppings, fruit & veg, crackers & nibbles.
Or whatever she likes.

Will it need to last all day or will you be picking her up from school to take her to sport? If you will be seeing her, then can you take her a food flask with pasta/sauce, veg chilli and rice, chunky soup, risotto, noodles in broth (super fast to prepare as you can dump noodles and thin cut veg in the flask ahead of time, then add a sachet of miso paste and boiling water) even jacket potato and beans/cheese (easiest to eat out of the flask if you cut the potato into chunks.

I'll be picking her up.

Some good ideas - thanks.

If she would be happy with cold things, tuna pasta salad with spring onions, peppers and sweetcorn would be filling.
Cous cous salad with harissa chickpeas and roasted veg.
Pitas filled with salad, falafel and a mint and yoghurt dressing.
Slices of roasted veg and potato fritata with crudités and hummus.

Does she take a packed lunch too?

Reheated leftovers?

I think it's a case of having the right tools (widenecked thermose, Bento boxes etc) and then the right foods. Or plan your journey home via the chippy every now and again!

my mum used to heat up samosas, sausage rolls, pasties in the oven, wrap in tin foil to keep warm and I would eat in the car, then I would eat properly when I got home. If you are concerned about things being 'healthy' and you have time pasties and samosas you could make yourself to ensure they have a good amount of vegetables in.
