Healthy breakfast and lunches that keep you full

I'm pregnant (30 weeks) with my second and seem to be absolutely piling on the weight this time! I just feel hungry soo much of the time. I've always had a healthy BMI and been a size 8-10 and just eaten what I fancied, when I fancied, but that's clearly not working for me right now.

What are your healthy go-to breakfast and lunch ideas that keep you full until the next meal? I find it's the late mornings and mid-late PMs that I just feel hungry all the time and often end up constantly snacking when I'm working - I WFH so it's so easy! I am vegetarian too btw.

Eggs!!!
Poached eggs on wholemeal toast with grilled tomatoes
Wholemeal bagels with cream cheese
Avocado and nut butters on toast.

When it’s not too hot, porridge is my number 1 breakfast choice. 30g oats and 180ml skimmed milk. Today I added a chopped banana, flaked almonds and honey. Yesterday it was blueberries and a spoon of lemon curd. If it’s too warm, I’ll prepare overnight oats.
I find falafel fills me up. Normally just served on a mixed green salad but sometimes with a wholemeal pitta bread.
Or jacket potatoes with beans. If I don’t have time for a jacket, I’ll do brown toast instead.

Anything whole grain will fill you up for longer, foods I love that fill me up for ages
are porridge, dark rye sourdough bread, peanut butter, eggs, bananas, falafel/hummus/whole meal pitta and salad. What are your usual go-to lunches? We might be able to help you make them more filling by switching out a few bits.

Porridge
Boiled egg with granary toast, and 3 types of fruit such as raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, red grapes, kiwi fruit, melon....

I usually have porridge for breakfast - half a cup of oats and 3/4 of a cup of milk, then I add some fruit. Or full fat Greek yoghurt with berries and nuts (this is higher calorie but lots of goodness). For lunch a salad with a healthy protein (tuna, beans, feta, hummus, chicken) and lots of lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, celery etc.

Natural yogurt, porridge oats, a banana and a handful of berries. I find full fat yogurt is better than low fat and the difference in calories is minimal.

OP I had a tuna wrap this morning using a whole can of tuba, low fat Philadelphia for the wrap binder, pickles abd lettuce for crunch. I've never had that for breakfast before but actually it was great! The strong flavours of the tubs and pickles killed and desire for sweet things and I was full for hours (normally I'm not and things like porridge make me hungry 90 mins later).

Actually though I did put protein powders in my porridge for a while and that helped keep me full for longer.

Porridge
Overight oats
Protein yoghurt

Eggs in any form, cooked in butter with smoked salmon, ham or grilled bacon.

Greek yoghurt (full fat) with a few cashew nuts and a couple of strawberries.

Protein and some fat will fill you up for hours so you'll be less likely to snack than if you have white toast and jam or sugary cereal.

Definitely full fat yoghurt, keeps me far fuller than the diet stuff

Hoolihan · 02/08/2021 19:17

Fave filling breakfast is oats with raisins, nuts, seeds soaked in oat milk and topped with chopped apple/berries and a drizzle of honey. It's so delicious but dreadfully calorific of course! Would also second the egg suggestion. Lentils too - soup, daal, salads.

I love overnight oats for breakfast. They are really filling and nicer than porridge in summer. There are millions of recipes online but the ones that include chia seeds are the nicest (gives it a lovely creamy texture). These are good examples

Fat and protein are so important to helping you feel full, more so than carbs (though I am not suggesting you avoid carbs altogether), so I would focus on breakfasts you enjoy with good amount of both of those - full fat yogurts, nuts, omelettes, avocado.... and you can't go far wrong.
