Help please! GH Naked Cake recipe fail

Has anyone baked the Good Housekeeping Naked Cake recipe? DiL-to-be asked me to bake the bottom layer (10 inch) for the wedding so I did a practice cake - then another - and both failed dismally. Although the top was baked and did the 'springs back' test and a skewer came out clean after the recipe bake time of 1hr 50 mins (and also it was quite brown enough), there was a huge hole in the centre of the cake inside - under the crust it was more like a donut than a cake. I'd checked the oven temp (160 degrees fan). I've baked many, many cakes successfully in this tin before but not one like this (10 eggs etc). Can anyone who has made this recipe work tell me how to bake it? Any help welcome please

I’ve just googled it. Will anyone know or care if you just make your standard go-to Victoria sponge? I much prefer to use SR flour and maybe add a tsp or two of baking powder. The egg quantity does seem high, but the scaling up from the smaller cakes seems to make sense.

I've not made it, but I'd:
Reduce the temperature
Dampen the paper layers round the tin
Increase cooking time

Does it form a crust? It's not a standard Victoria sponge, but if it tastes like one, and doesnt form a crust that might be supportive, I'd be inclined to pull the ingredients closer to a standard sponge recipie.

Good luck!

Not made that particular recipe, but this one is excellent for wedding/celebration cakes www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/easy-vanilla-cake

Thank you all. I'll put it to the bride later that I'm more likely to succeed with a familiar recipe.

Split it into two tins, much more even faster bake than one huge 10 egg one.
