Roasted a chicken today. Took it out of oven at 2pm and covered it with foil. Came home at 7pm and realised I'd forgotten to put it In the fridge. Would you eat it??

Yes, wouldn't even enter my mind not to

BeeyatchPlease · 27/06/2021 20:35

Of course, no hesitation.

Redwinestillfine · 27/06/2021 20:36

No. The food poisoning bacteria start multiplying after an hour and a half at room temperature, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

RickiTarr · 27/06/2021 20:36

Okay hands up everyone who ha done this and -important bit - ISN'T DEAD.

🤚🏼

Bloody hell, our Christmas turkey used to stay out on the sideboard for about a week when I were a lass.

OverByYer · 27/06/2021 20:38

Yes absolutely would

You could still be at the table at the point...

oneglassandpuzzled · 27/06/2021 20:43

Yes. Unless your kitchen is very hot.

cushioncovers · 27/06/2021 20:43

Yep unless it's been in direct sunlight or had flies on it.

OverByYer · 27/06/2021 20:44

ReachedTheEndofCake · 27/06/2021 20:44

🖖🏻 Just about vouch for not deadness

WimpoleHat · 27/06/2021 20:45

It’ll be fine!

Helpimfalling · 27/06/2021 20:46

Of course I'd still eat it

Smartiepants79 · 27/06/2021 20:48

Yes, especially if it’s been covered.
I would. What a waste otherwise.

WhyamIevenhere · 27/06/2021 20:48

Listen, I have had domino's, left it in the box on the kitchen counter for 24 hours, reheated it and eaten in. Without having the shits. And quite clearly I am still alive.

Some chicken out the fridge for an afternoon is absolutely fine.

ManxRhyme · 27/06/2021 20:48

If its cooked through and there are no pink bits, AND your kitchen isn't overly warm then can't see why not.

ChequerBoard · 27/06/2021 20:49

Yes I would, far too much food wastage on MN with people throwing away things after ridiculously short times out of the fridge.

MrsUnderkracker · 27/06/2021 20:50

@Daisydoesnt

No way! 2 hours is the time window in which you want to get get food cold enough to then go in the fridge. And something high risk like chicken left at room temperature? You knock yourself out but there’s no way I’d eat it.

And to the pp who commented about picnics - I’d have any high risk items in a cool bag and things like fruit or salad or bread unchilled in a basket. And as for Packed lunches that can’t be kept chilled? It’s going to be cheddar cheese and pickle sandwiches then!

QueenLagertha · 27/06/2021 20:56

Right I should've put this to a vote on AIBU. Quite warm here today 21/22 degrees. I also have bowel disease if that sways anyone's opinion. DH disagrees and thinks the chicken is fine

100% would eat it but l have got a cast iron stomach!
Hate wasting food.

DogsSausages · 27/06/2021 21:02

Let him eat it then and if he gets the squits it's his own fault

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 27/06/2021 21:16

Yes, without any doubt. It probably takes almost that long to fully cool down anyway....

Would you eat a chicken sandwich you had made at 7am for lunch at 1pm?

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 27/06/2021 21:20

@Northernsoullover

Nope. I'm an Environmental health officer if it helps.
It doesn't. I imagine the guidance these days is full of ridiculously cautious tick boxes.....
