Halloumi cooked in panini/toastie maker?

Having friends over for a garden party, and decided not to barbecue as I don't want to miss out on all the fun! Do you think it would work? I don't have a griddle pan and like the grill lines on it! I usually cut it into chunks and put on a skewer and just occurred that it might work on the sandwich toaster? Anyone tried this?!

No, bit that sounds a brilliant idea!! Did you see the cookery programme with Nadia b where she made hallomi, watermelon and bread skewers-they were awesome! Anyway, her top tip was too cut the hallomi into squares then soak it in cold water for 30 minutes-makes it taste so much nicer, try it!! Try and search the recipe too, she marinated the cheese, bread and watermelon in a chili oil. Was fabulous!! ,- realise that doesn't help with the no skewers, looking for an easy way to cook it idea. Sorry 😁

You are right, when my sister came to stay a couple of weeks ago she had read about soaking halloumi , so we tried it and it was really lovely, (less salty but equally squeaky) then done on the bbq.

Well, it doesn't look pretty but it sort of worked! Yum with some homemade relish!!

Oh wow, what a great idea, I'm so going to do this.

I meant to add, that I often put a few drops of liquid smoke on halloumi before cooking it, and that would go brilliantly with barbecue food.
I tried putting it in a bowl but it doesn't spread evenly, so now I put about 5 drops in clean hands and rub it over the cheese.
Liquid smoke is available on Amazon btw, amazing stuff, another favourite way is on portobello mushrooms used as burgers.
