What are you feeding your DC (photo inspiration please)?

I'm a bit lacking in inspiration when it comes to feeding my preschool DC - they're fussy and I'm running short on acceptable dinner ideas!

AIBU to ask you to post pictures of your DC-approved culinary masterpieces?

I'll start with my own effort from yesterday (an uninspiring combination of chicken teddies, sweet potato fries and broccoli).

I don't currently have a photo but following and will post when I take one!

How old are your children?

RoaringBunny · 14/06/2021 17:37

@MamaEs. Coming up for 4. Prime fussy age (I hope!).

I've always just given them whatever we're having unless I know it's something they hate like fish.

@Sometimesonly. I eat the same meal as them but recently that's sunk to the level of chicken teddies and boil in the bag fish... hence hoping to steal inspiration from others Smile!

Grin We eat a lot of pasta and that always seems to go down well. Tonight we are eating chicken with mediterranean cous cous.
Georgyporky · 14/06/2021 19:39

I've only ever given what I'm having - within reason.

Smarshian · 14/06/2021 19:41

We had spaghetti bolognese- hardly inspired sorry.
We have plans for sausage casserole, salmon, quiche and homemade burgers for other days this week.

They always have what we're having, but I do make sure there's always something on the plate they definitely like; for example tomorrow we're having lamb kebabs with hummus, pitta and roasted veg. I know DD won't be keen on the veg because she only likes them raw (ridiculous!) so I'll chop up some carrots for her and then I know she'll eat those along with the hummus and pitta for definite. The rule is they have to have at least a bite of the things on the plate they think they don't like. Sometimes they then realise it's actually nice and I'm not lying to them.

I know there's things each of them really hate, so I'd leave that off their plate in that instance. I wouldn't make DD eat a plate of scrambled eggs as I know she hates eggs (strange child).

On the menu this week there's beef chilli with rice, pasta bake, chicken wraps with chips and make your own pizza. We sometimes have chicken curry, smoked salmon pasta, risotto, prawn noodles. I do get bored of eating the same things all the time so sometimes I look on BBC good food website for ideas!

I don't have pictures, but DD is quite fussy so outside of the standard pesto pasta, spaghetti bolognaise, meatballs, we do steak with vegetables or roast chicken with vegetables and yorkshire pudding (she LOVES yorkshires and is always more open to whatever I'm feeding her as a result). Pork chop with new potatoes and vegetables. [hence, there's a trend here - she'll eat plain boiled vegetables and basic meat or whatever, so I can pull together quite a nice plate as a result].

This week we have had:
Pitta bread pizzas (hopefully better than frozen pizza as the sauce is homemade from vegetables and wholemeal pitta base)
Chicken nuggets and chips (chips home made, nuggets not)
Chicken and sweetcorn pasta bake using the save sauce from the pizza
Omelet and mixed vegetables
Fish pie (although eldest didn't eat this and ended up with scrambled egg on toast 🙄)

Usually we have a lot of curries and casseroles but I just can't be bothered to cook that in this weather!

ChocOrange1 · 14/06/2021 22:35

Both of mine will eat a roast especially if it comes with Yorkshire puds.
