Not been eating too well . My freind says that I am run down and am not getting enoughy nutrients.
My dh feels that maybe i should eat eggs .
I just cannot think of doing so . Thought I know it makes sense health wise and a source of easy nutrients.
I just find eggs a very strange thing to eat. Anyone else feel the same ..? I mean what actually are they and does it put stress on hens ( heard that taking eggs away causes them lay more than thet naturally would ) .

Try getting some easy vegan cook books or doing some of the meal delivery boxes to built up a stock of easy recipes.

Just eat eggs. Lovely nutritious eggs in an omelette with mushrooms.

Have you just cut things out, or are you already trying to eat a balanced diet?

GreatestSh0wUnicorn · 08/06/2021 12:00

@vimtosogood unless you believe eggs cause suffering to chicken have you seen the state of the poor hens that lay supermarket‘free range’ eggs!

Are you looking for ideas to get more nutrition from a vegan diet, or 'permission' to not be vegan?

Iron, B vitamins, protein are all things that could lead you to feeling run down if deficient (are you actually run down or is that your friend's opinion?). They're all achievable through a vegan diet, with supplements being the easy option if you're not feeling too excited about watching your diet closely. Eggs may or may not help, depending on what the problem is.

I do put some thought into my (mostly plant based, occasionally dairy/eggs) diet carefully and ensure enough protein, vegetables and good fats each day but also have a daily multivitamin and a protein shake as a sort of insurance policy. I had full blood work done recently and everything was in normal range.

I know some people swaying away from a vegan diet but wanting to stay as ethical as possible look to source milk or eggs from local pet animals, or try mollusc-type shellfish which aren't considered sentient. I'm just relaying that info by the way, you would need to do your own research and make your own decision about whether it fits with your values, hard core vegans will certainly argue against it!

If you are worried about nutritional deficiencies, you can get some tested by your doctor. That said, I do know some people who tried to become a vegan and simply could not tweak a vegan diet so they felt well.

It is personal. At the risk of getting in trouble with vegans, eggs are packed with nutrition, including many vitamins. If you can find eggs produced by a local small holding or even a country neighbour with chickens, they are not created by harming chickens.

Eggs have been food for humans since time immemorial.

Thanks all. Am vegan due to ethical reasons around welfare as well as the planet. I think that part of the issue id that i see eating local produce of all kinds as more natural and sustianable than a lot of the currently avaliable vegan products using ingredients from further afied which is many airmiles and seem to contradict much of what i aim to do ?
Thus i was thinking , for eg, is it better to eat eggs from.neigbours garden rather thab my usual curries made with a co conut milk base and chilli tofu .. even tho i sort of so not fancy eggs at all and i think that taking them.away stresses hens ? .dilemas . !
My pal is quite well up on health matters. I know when i ate ( good quality meat i felt much better than i do now) its hard to havea lazy day being vegan i think . I do cook veg, rice and pulses each day.
I will order that book ,thanks , looks good !

My DD is vegetarian rather than vegan, although she prefers to use plant based milk and butter.
She does not eat eggs though and is perfectly healthy so I don’t see why you need to eat them

One vitamin that might be lacking is B12. Mind you my carnivore brother is lacking it! Might be worth getting a good vegan multi vitamin/mineral pill to take every day but check your health with a GP first.

Have a look at the Viva web site.

There was a Viva stall in my local town centre, with food samples. I'm not a vegan but am vegetarian, and am not normally enthusiastic about vegan meat and cheese substitutes, but the foods I sampled were absolutely delicious. The people on the stall were enthusiastic, informative and friendly and stressed that processed meat alternatives were as treats, not for day-to-day consumption.

The person I spoke to recommended the BOSH! recipes as well as the Viva ones.
