Possible Tomato intolerance

I'm wondering if my DS has a tomato intolerance, but a lot of our food tends to have tomato in as it is one of the only things he and the other kids will eat. Is there any way to make a pretend tomato like sauce for Bolognese etc? Also ideas for tomato free fussy kid friendly meals would be welcome! Thanks

I think you can get red pepper pesto but some have sun dried tomatoes in, so you would need to check. You could possible use that but in much smaller quantities than you would tomatoes.
Or just use green pesto.
That.could also work on a pizza base.
I think I’d probably just look for recipes that don’t rely on a tomato base.
Cottage pie
Curry’s with coconut milk bases
Macaroni cheese
Tuna pasta bake
Carbonara
Stir fries with black bean or hoisin sauce
Chicken stuffed with mozzarella
Falafel and pita

Now I've never tried this, it would just be a guess but maybe try making a reddish vegetable sauce by cooking and blitzing red peppers with onions, garlic and butternut squash and/or carrot. As if you were making a soup. Then thin with vegetable stock or water as necessary. That mixed with your mince may work to replicate the look of Bolognese without the tomatoes.

Try googling nomato/notmato or nightshade free then the recipe you want to make.

Lots of people avoid plants from the nightshade family (peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, aubergine) so you should be able to find recipes with substitutions. They often use beet, carrots or squash with vinegar (for the acidity) eg

BTW, you might find your DS is intolerant to the other nightshade vegetables/fruits.

Another vote for nomato- I had to do it for one of the kids years ago (and during pregnancy with said child!)...he's ok now so managed to grow out it.

I found replacing tomato with things like Boursin and creme Friaiche, pesto worked well in meals

Also heavily cooking tomato breaks it down and is not as reactive as fresh tomato so tolerable, also avoided things like dolmio but chopped tomato was ok.

Once it was limited intake he didn't react anywhere near as much and the body learnt to tolerate it

Thanks for the link to nomato! I'd never heard of that! Unfortunately he is also intolerant of dairy and soy as well, it's turning into a bit of as nightmare trying to balance his needs and those of the other kids.
