Yorkshire Pudding - Quick Question - I don't have the correct tray, what else can I use?

Can I use a muffin tray or would that be too deep?

I also have fairy-cake tray, cake tin, loaf tin and lasagne ceramic dish. Sadly no shallow trays at all??

I always make mine in a muffin tray - can't honestly say I could spot the difference between that and "proper" one... You end up with nice deep Yorkies, that is all.

Yorkies on a Thursday lunchtime? Can I come to lunch, please?

great thanks. I will use the muffin tray - extra deep yorkies sound fab.

They're not for lunch though lol. I'm doing a roast for dinner tonight I've just got back from the butchers with the most amazing piece of beef that I couldn't not do yorkies. Only problem is we usually have lamb or pork so home made yorshire puds are a bit of a first for me (in fact I'm using a recipe from 'the dinner lady') - wish me luck!

Nb - I don't have a roasting tin - I use a stone square dish - not sure if that would work the same?

Don't think it would, has to be metal so it gets really hot

I used whatever tray i put my hand on - either the one i use for fairy cakes or muffin tin.

I also alway make a least a dozen (just for DH, DD1 and me) then freeze whatever left for another day.

I usually use a muffin tin. If I'm at MILs and delegated to make puds I use fairy cake tin. Doesn't seem to matter to much. Does help if its non-stick. Also don't be mean with the fat and get it really hot before putting in the batter.

Not helpful for the tin, but this is funny:

you can use the ceramic dish but preheat it (and the oil) really well first - like 10-15min

kittylouise · 15/11/2007 13:26

Yes, I have made mine in ceramic ramekins and they turned out great. But you have to get the oil unbelievably hot before you put the batter in, as someone says above out in top of hot oven for about 15 mins.
