It's in the oven, looking splendid - can I take it out and leave it in the tray to ice/cool etc. or will it go soggy?
Just thought if it's in tray - easier to transport to school tomorrow.
TIA

I always take mine out of the tray in the greaseproof paper and let it cool that way.

Not so sure I'd leave it in the tray.

ta - better get it out now :-)

I left mine in and it was fine - it was only moist where I'd drizzled lemon and icing afterward anyway! Will try it the other way next time and see if it's better!

Bugger - bit of a disaster - falling apart.
I checked it was cooked (nothing on fork), but when I've taken it out it's all kind of soggy looking.
Ah well, pudding for the boys tonight and their friends.
ANy ideas where I went wrong?
I don't have a mixer so I hand mixed the butter and sugar first then gradually added all the other ingredients into a smooth batter typr consistency.
TIA

Do you leave yours to cool before drizzling the lemon and icing on WIsteria?
I did it as per instructions i.e straight away and to be honest I think thats what has made it too moist.
Might try again tonight by leaving it in the tray then drizzling lemon and icing on after it's cooled????

mine usually is very soft and moist, did you cover it up before it cooled completely?

She is definitely a lady not a lad, though

I followed the instructions to the letter and it was lovely - drizzle cakes are moist don't forget.

Took out of oven (still in tin) drizzled over reserved lemon juice, then spread icing on.

oops sorry Marsy - just realised I'd altered your gender in the title.

After the initial panic, once I'd lifted it out and left it to cool, it's actually OK...now that I've hacked it to pieces and distributed it to mum and friend!
So, plan is to make another tonight, leave in tray and drizzle/ice as soon as out of oven then hand it over and hope for the best.
If it crumbles I'll blame it on their inefficient cutting

Sorry - one last question. I've made it, iced it etc. all in the tray, covered with foil....how do I store it till tomorrow - OK at room temp or should i put it in the fridge?
TIA

I store at room temp, but I will give mars a shout for you

smoggie · 16/11/2007 13:21

Thanks chopster - I stored at room temp and it looked OK.
