in the spare bedroom cupboard, left from last year! Does anyone think it'll be alright for this year? Looks and smells fine (yummy, in fact)

i would recommend having another human being stood by while you sample it ..... in order to fone the ambulance......Just kidding! If it isnt green & mouldy (the pudding - not the human being) then i dont see why it shouldnt be edible. Copious amounts of brandy sauce may counter any ill effects...

We've got one from last year and I've checked and it's BB 24 Feb 2004 - so probably not.

msann · 02/11/2004 11:52

....ok so mayb i was wrong!

agy · 02/11/2004 11:56

Ohhh! - perhaps I'll just try it out on... me! Its rather big, but I can cope. And I think I'm brave enough.

My Mum makes hers about 3 years in advance! The older they are (within reason) the better they taste. I've survived 41 years of puddings at least 2 years old and I live to tell the tale. Last year I made extra especially so we could eat them this year. I wouldn't worry if I were you but if in doubt douse it in brandy and set it on fire, should be fine!!

msann · 02/11/2004 12:00

now recommend 2 people to stand by...1 to fone ambulance 1 to fone fire brigade

agy · 02/11/2004 12:06

Oh right! that's fantastic. We always do the brandy thing anyway. Won't eat it all myself then! Thanks Albert.

I've kept mine for up to 3 years before. The older they are, the better they taste!

Agy - most of the old fashioned recipes suggest leaving for a year or more to mature - so I reckon you will be fine. My exMIL always used to keep hers for a year or two before using and although she was an old bag - her chrissy puds were fantastic

Thanks again! Soapbox !!
