LO is either ill or teething (again) - he is 17 months.
He will usually eat a weetabix but I can't give him 3 of these a day and nothing else can i? He'll also eat yoghurts...
Any other suggestions ?

hmm french toast always went down a treat with my two as it was nice and soft but because it ws bread it was quite filling too.

mix some eggs into a bowl dip your bread and fry in a little butter.
not great calorie wise but if its a treat for being ill im sure he will be fine

notnowbernard · 13/11/2007 20:22

If he's ill, he might genuinely be off his food. If he's teething, his gums will be sore (back teeth esp).

Don't worry too much about food, just keep his fluid intake up. Weetabix 3 times a day sounds good to me

Desiderata · 13/11/2007 20:22

mamazon beat me to it. French toast (eggy bread) always goes down a treat, and it's one of the few things he'll eat when he's unwell.

Chips.

French stick & bread sticks are nice for teething and gentle on the stomach if ill. Choc buttons are the true test that they're feeling better!

RubySlippers · 13/11/2007 20:26

DS will refuse most food when he is ill and will just have milk or water

when he has recovered he makes up for it

as NNB says the fluids are important ...

herbgarden · 13/11/2007 20:28

choc buttons.........mmm I fancy some of those right now. Eggy bread, now that's a good idea - it's not too crispy is it - bit soggy but bit comfort food. He's generally a good eater and does make up for it but as I don't actually know what it is that's wrong I don't know what to offer..........Poor little thing, it's horrid for them.

If a LO is off-colour, you should let them eat what they want, and not force them. It's a good idea to keep up with clear fluids though, and accept the consequencies of having to clean up puke.

Offer toast, but don't force or even encourage. They know what they can handle.

weetabix and yoghurt when they are ill, but mine have never been ill with teething so I guess I would be more concerned if it went on for a while.

BroccoliSpears · 13/11/2007 20:34

Grapes and milk.
I don't really worry about what she eats when she's a bit poorly.

pointydog · 13/11/2007 20:40

jelly

LoveAngelGabriel · 13/11/2007 20:43

I don't see anything wrong with giving your LO cereal three times a day for a few days if he is feeling poorly and off his food. At least he's actually eating. My DS used to survive on readybrek and banana and the odd bit of honey toast when he was unwell. Now he likes lots of milk and bready things like currant buns and crumpets. Chilled fruit pieces are good for a sore throat or gums/teeth too (grape halves, apple slices, strawberries, nectarine etc).

stripeymama · 13/11/2007 20:46

Pretty much what she wants - usually yoghurt. Also porridge, soup, fruit, ice cream, rice, fresh squeezed orange juice.

Drinks are main thing to get into them and can be nutritious - smoothies/yoghurt drinks are good.

shrooms · 14/11/2007 00:11

I make butterbean and potato mash, with extra soya milk and marg so it's quite loose and then goes down easier if throats are sore or they are tired ect.
They have only had vomiting/runs a couple of times but when they did they had nothing but cool water, squash, ice lollies and a few melon pieces. Never seen them eat so little, but they would get over it fast as their guts were rested at least (although both can go all skinny in a matter of days which was worrying...)
Agree with the drinks ect as if they don't feel like eating but you want some energy inside them, then smoothies and juices are good. However I wouldn't give fruit juices with the runs unless very dilute, as it would only make things worse!
