Can anyone suggest some recipes DD can help me with please. She’s really keen to learn and has picked up the basics very quickly.
We’ve already made
curry
pizza
spaghetti bolognese/meatballs
sausage tray bake
Salmon fishcakes
Roast dinners
Risotto

She has a dairy intolerance and can’t have cheese which means a lot of pasta dishes are out but is otherwise not fussy and will eat most things.

Pesto with nutritional yeast instead of Parmesan?
Sausage and mash
Home made burgers?

Omelette

Chicken kebabs (season cubed chicken in something - we use paprika) threaded onto a skewer with mushroom, pepper, cherry tomatoes, shallot) and grill. We serve with a flatbread DS makes, but its Greek yoghurt and four, so might not be suitable, and a salsa of tinned sweetcorn and diced cucumber with lemon juice and coriander leaves.

Cake and biscuits - with a dairy free margarine, you might be better sticking with cake.

Pancakes - with sweet or savoury fillings

Fried or scrambled egg.

Sausage tray bakes easily convert to chicken thigh tray bakes.

DS likes a white fish fillet (sea bass is his preference Hmm) on a bed of sugar snap peas and pak choi with soya sauce and fish sauce scattered over. Wrapped in greaseproof paper and oven cook.

What does she like to eat? I always find DS is keener to partake if it’s food he enjoys eating.

So for us, he’s helped with different types of curry, roasts, stir fries and pancakes and waffles for breakfast. I think I may suggest fajitas next as he likes spicy food.

Stir fries, noodle soup, sushi

Vegetables (eg courgettes) stuffed with a cooked rice mixture, then baked.

How to make shortcrust pastry, eg for a fruit tart.

Salmon baked in a foil parcel, served with stir fried vegetables.

Rock buns.

Homemade bread- really easy just need lots of time for rising...can then use it to make loaves, different shaped rolls, Chelsea buns, iced buns, pizzas

Fantastic thank you all for the great suggestions.
She loves all fish so will definitely try those ideas. She likes quite a lot of spice too so stir fries and kebabs will both be a hit I think. Going to try homemade burgers at the weekend too.
We don’t have time for making bread at the moment but it’s a brilliant idea for the school holidays.

Fish cakes and falafel are fun to make, I usually do oven baked versions which are ideal for kids as no worries about spitting oil.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 27/04/2021 20:49

Sorry just realised you’ve already done fish cakes! Bean burgers are similar.

my kids love making up homemade wellingtons - make up chicken or mince patties/burgers and wrap in puff pastry and bake.
tarts and quiches are popular.
haloumi burgers/tacos
rolling meatballs for meatball subs or serve with pasta
my kids also love to make batches of wontons/different types of Chinese dumplings (we buy the wrappers, make filling and fill ourselves). eat some as potstickers and freeze rest for quick wonton soups/early dinners.

TheHoneyFactory · 28/04/2021 04:57

oh sorry i missed the dairy intolerance - scrap the halloumi suggestion

pookypup · 28/04/2021 06:27

Could you buy her a little children’s cook book? Mine enjoy choosing recipes to make and helping to plan what we need to buy.

They normally only want to cook the puds though!

Snuzzle · 28/04/2021 07:11

I bought her a cookbook during lockdown but quite a few of the savoury recipes have cheese in them and she hates what she calls fake cheese lol
She loves baking but other than me helping with the oven she can do that pretty much by herself and wants something more challenging.
They’ve been learning about healthy eating at school and with her dairy intolerance she’s become really interested in cooking and finding different interesting things she can eat.
Really love seeing her so enthusiastic about it and want to encourage her as much as possible.
There’s some really great ideas here that I wouldn’t have thought of so should keep us busy for now Smile
