Which stand mixer for making pizza dough?

Can anyone recommend a stand mixer which makes good pizza dough? I think we've narrowed it down to the KitchenAid 6.9L Artisan Stand Mixer or the Kenwood kMix KMX750 Stand Mixer but there is a huge difference in price! Is the KitchenAid worth it? We will use it for other things I'm sure but our priority is a machine which makes excellent pizza dough.

I've got a Kitchenaid and it's my pride and joy. It is great at kneading dough but I also use it a lot to make cakes, biscuits etc. I would say though that it's a massive investment (especially the 6.9l one) if you're only using it for dough - unless you're planning on making a lot of pizza every day. Would a smaller bowl do or do you need one that big and industrious?

My friends have Kenwoods and rate them very highly but I always had my heart set on a Kitchenaid (more for the aesthetics!) so didn't consider it. I think you pay a premium for the look of a Kitchenaid so Kenwoods being cheaper doesn't (from my friends' feedback) doesn't mean they're a lesser product.

I use my bread machine as it rises the dough!

I’ve been told the Kenwood can do more. So it just depends really on what attachments you need.

The yeast rises the dough. The bread maker provides a sensible temperature for it. If you can recognise a warm place when you see one, that is also good for providing the right temperature.

As long as the mixer has a strong enough motor and larger enough bowl for mixing, it really does just come down to looks I think. I have a cheap mixer and it can make a 1kg loaf but not a 1.5kg one. So I just stick to smaller loaves, and when it breaks down I’ll buy a fancy one then. DH uses a cheap bread maker for pizza dough though. Mainly because we were bought one as a wedding present, never made bread but he got into making pizzas.

We’ve had a kitchenaid for about 10 years and have used it loads for pizza dough, bread and cakes. Also got the pasta attachment. I know they are £££ but we’ve got so much use out of ours

The kmix is the cheaper/smaller version of the Kenwood, that is why the price difference is so huge.

Can't help with either of those, but I've just bought a Kenwood titanium major and it is absolutely blooming incredible. Made the best pizza dough I've ever made, and if you ever make cakes etc, the silicon sided beater is a game changer.

The kenwood Chef is the comparable one, really, though the K mix is very good. All good for dough. The key is not to get a weedy motor, so I’d avoid any of the cheap ones!

I have the kmix but I think they're both the same. They do the same thing. You can also make dough in a bread machine, and prove it if you want too.

I do mine in kitchen aid, which i have to remove and rise or my bread machine which does it ready to use.

Thanks for all the advice. I hadn't come across the Kenwood titanium major, so that is now on the list. We'd thought of the Kmix as a cheaper alternative but the kitchen aid gets such good reviews it's very tempting but also very expensive!

I have a kenwood chef and use it a minimum of once a week, mostly for pizza dough and salsas/dipping sauces (using the multi mill attachment). It's one of the best things I've ever bought and was 100% worth the expense.
