Damn - I think I just ate chicken that has gone off (possible TMI)

I have a bit of a cold & stuff is tasting odd, plus I have 2 tooth abscesses which are weeping a bit and giving a funny taste in my mouth.

So the chicken stir-fry which tasted a bit odd - didn't really surprise me

Now DH has just come in & said "You haven't eaten that have you - the chicken smells off

I feel a bit stupid - but the chicken was in date & nothing is tasting quite right

What is the worst that could happen?

Oh dear Katy you are not having much luck at the moment, I remember you having tooth trouble recently.

Hopefully no harm done, particularly as the chicken was 'in date'; probably all your food is going to taste a bit 'tainted' atm.
(hope not tmi)
Fingers crossed.

Katymac · 11/11/2007 20:50

But if it smells bad to a noncold nonabscess person...it probably is bad

How ill do you get for bad chicken

Oh dear. Poor you. Was it well cooked through? That might help. It cannot have been that off if it were in date.

I got sick from chicken once. It was a terrible 48 hours. On the bright side I lost over a stone!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/11/2007 20:56

Erm

You do realise we are talking e-coli /food poisioning here (please don't get all panicky)

Can be very nasty, poor you.

Katymac · 11/11/2007 20:56

Gee thanks

I don't want to google it do I?

How susceptable to stomach bugs are you as a rule? I used to be a delicate flower but over time have developed a cast iron constitution, and if I eat bad chicken, chances are the worst I get is a bad tummy rather then full blown food poisioning

Katymac · 11/11/2007 20:58

It was well cooked

It was chicken breast

It was cooked all the way through & a bit crispy at the edges

But I know how dangerous it is

I just don't think making myself throw up will eliminate the risk will it?

Hi, Katymac. i think many people had this experience and nothing bad happened to them. I once was travelling in the train and i was eating chicken the next day of travelling and when I finished it and started to collect the bones for throwing I suddenly realized that it smelt off. I was really shocked and frightened not only for myself but also for my brother who was sharing it with me. None of us fell ill. i hope you'll be okay but sometimes when i worry about the food I've eaten i make myself a soda soulution - 1 teaspoon of drinking soda on a glass of water and sip it. I don't know if the doctor woul aprove though so I don't know how good this idea is but it helps me. Anyway, good luck. Actually, just thought you could make a search on what remedy would help in this case (it's just a thought though).

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/11/2007 21:08

Hope you stay well Katy

Katymac · 11/11/2007 21:09

Thanks - I am doubting it atm.....hopefully I will be OK

If it was in date and well cooked, I can't really see a problem, maybe your dh just didn't much like the idea of the tea you had lovingly cooked for him?

Katymac · 11/11/2007 21:14

DH had already eaten (while I was having a nap)

I offered him some of mine.....but that's when he said it smelt

fedda · 11/11/2007 22:15

Please, let me know how you are getting on. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

pinkbubble · 11/11/2007 22:21

I have had food poising from chicken, I had an awful stomach ache and I mean awful, also was sick really badly! Lated for about 18 hrs. Other than that it was ok!

Another words yes indeed horrid for a couple of days but got over it with no drawbacks!

Katymac · 11/11/2007 22:23

The sad thing is I don't even know when or if it will hit

I could be waiting for hours and nothing happen

OP posts:
colditz · 11/11/2007 22:25

If it was well cooked it should be fine.

fedda · 11/11/2007 22:30

I agree.

pinkbubble · 11/11/2007 22:30

Mine took hold about 8 hrs after I had eaten it, so I think if you wake up in the morning and you feel ok, then fingers crossed you should be ok!

Katymac · 11/11/2007 22:39

So I might see 4 am tomorrow morning

Shame I was hoping for a lie in

Don't worry my mum once ate a whole M&S ready to cook chicken Kiev she only realised after she'd eaten it that it said ready to cook and not ready to eat! She was fine.

Katymac · 12/11/2007 07:18

I tentatively seem to be OK

I wonder if it could still hit now

Fingers crossed it won't

OP posts:
fedda · 12/11/2007 18:19

i'm glad you are okay.

Katymac · 12/11/2007 19:38

Me too

I asked DH where he put the rest of the stirfry & he said he ate it

I said I thought you said it was off

He said well it smelt OK when I wanted a bit

OP posts:
BoysAreLikeReindeer · 12/11/2007 19:41

Grrrrr

Men

Glad you are ok Katy

fedda · 12/11/2007 22:04

Do you think your DH tricked you so he could have the rest?
