We've just had our first DS and I know my DW will be shattered when she comes out so I'll be doing the cooking and prepping as I have done througout her pregnancy.. So I wanna try these boxes out as I've heard good things, don't know which box to go for or which recipes are good..
All experience and advice, hints or tips greatly appreciated 🙂

Also if you bank with santander with one of their reward accounts you get an additional 10% cashback.

Gousto portions were generous for me and DP, I don't eat much meat in a meal and there was always plenty of that, sauce and veg. We sometimes added a bit of extra carb into the mix as that tended to be where it was a bit short, I'd want more carb and less meat for me. But better that way than not having enough of the main event I think 😂

Thanks to whoever used my code! I hope you enjoy it! 🙂

MsSquiz · 09/04/2021 15:55

@Grumpylate20s we find the portions decent and DH would definitely let it be known if he didn't have enough food! Grin

We usually get 2 or 3 meals for dinner through the week and 1 for lunch. But now that we've built up a file full of recipes, we will cancel a box and reuse previous recipes

FeeFi100 · 17/04/2021 10:58

Thank you so much for the code! My order is coming soon!

Grumpylate20s · 17/04/2021 15:16

I have just received a box from Parsley Box, ready meals that don't require a fridge or freezer
Meals include - lasagne, Shepards pie, lamb hot pot and beef stew.

We use Gousto, my DC have become much more adventurous eaters, however for some recipes there’s still a certain amount of prep, which sometimes is last thing I feel like doing after a busy day, don’t beat yourself up if you resort to the occasional takeaway or lasagna you shove in the oven, especially with a young baby.

ellieTeatime · 29/04/2021 14:45

Hey, we've tried them all and agree that Gousto is my top pick, been with them for about 2 years now. The range of dinners is pretty big at least 30 to choose from each week and they are always adding new ones.

Meal sizes are good, so there is normally plenty of leftovers to make up pack ups too.

One of the biggest advantages i have found is the reduction in trips to the shops to grab dinner, where you end up spending well over what you intended to. Shops are designed to make you spend as much as possible with offers etc, so I've found I rarely visit supermarkets and aim to schedule most of my food shop.

I also use www.uopen.com/ to schedule different treat boxes such as pancake making kits and kids activity boxes which is a good way to manage different subscriptions all through one account.

All the boxes always run great first box offers, so worth trying them all to see which you like the best.

Good luck with the new arrival and hope you enjoy the food deliveries, they will help for sure.

Had a 4 week discounted trial with both of them (we have a 4 month old and 18 month old so need minimal prep/quick meals as possible). For us hellofresh wins hands down. Absolutely no question about it. I felt like we used every pan in the house with gousto although the meals were tasty. We stuck it out with hellofresh for about 10 weeks then our latest box came unbagged and I took a hormonal huff and cancelled. The bags are part of the convenience for us. I've since started taking 5 recipes and ordering the stuff in on a Morrison's shop myself. I order it for a Sunday morning and spend 15 mins bagging it all up myself and portioning and freezing the meat and it's half the price!

bonfireheart · 29/04/2021 15:50

Has anyone tried Morrisons Eat Fresh, same concept and budget friendly.

Twinkie01 · 29/04/2021 15:57

We use Mindful Chef, as a business model they (IMO) are better than the other meal boxes out there, v healthy and all take 30 mins or less.

I've tried simply cook, hello fresh and Gousto.

Cook ready meals are pretty good for the early days. They deliver and do some nice heathy smaller meals which are ideal for lunches. I've bought some for friends after they've had children or were breaded and they've all been gladly received.

Congratulations by the way.

We use both. I honestly couldn't choose between them. Gousto is cheaper, with a better selection of recipes and a somehow more intuitive app, however I find the Hello Fresh recipes and ingredients are just that little more 'special' and better quality. Which is good, because they're more expensive! Also I like that we can order five recipes for three people (more flexible if one of the dds is out / can't eat it due to restrictions etc).

I have a code for 50% off your first Gousto box and 30% off and then for the first month if anyone is interested in trying it. cook.gousto.co.uk/raf?promo_code=NICOL274409&utm_source=iosapp
We have a Gousto box this week - we having a cheese and leek mushroom risotto tonight. Smile

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/04/2021 17:01

Morrisons do a very similar box. 35quid inc delivery and its 5x evening meals which each serve 4. So it would do you both for the full week with possibly some lunches. It's a fixed menu (and very much "family staples") but a good low cost option to squeeze in amongst the fancier app style boxes.

pinkchampagne1 · 29/04/2021 17:10

I got the Morrison’s box the other week. You can’t choose your recipes though and the recipes don’t seem to have changed in the last few weeks either. It’s also not quite as easy as the ingredients aren’t all measured out like they are with HF and Gousto

Agreed - it's very much a basic version. But the volume of food (for me) made it worth getting one week.

It's a shame they dont at least change it every other month or so as I'd get it more often.

pinkchampagne1 · 29/04/2021 17:16

I agree. I thought it was good value but if they changed the recipes every few weeks I would get it again.

SylHellais · 29/04/2021 17:17

I’ve tried both and much prefer Gousto. There’s a bigger selection of recipes and I just found them generally nicer. I tried Mindful Chef but they’re very expensive and I wasn’t that impressed with the recipes. It seemed like an awful lot of bulking out with veg.

pinkchampagne1 · 29/04/2021 17:55

My sister tried Mindful Chef and I couldn’t believe how expensive they were!
